The Ocean Hunter

Review by Funk Punk

"...Maybe they can't afford to use regular names without "The"."

If your confused by my synopsis, read the first review name. Then read mine, you'll get it soon enough. But let get to the review, shall we? The Ocean Hunter is a overlooked, under-rated, underwater shooter by Sega that really did'nt catch onto the crowd like House of the Dead did. If you never heard or saw the game in your life. Than I'll try to paint a vivid picture for you.

Graphics/9: Oh, so this is what the wonders of the deep look like. The graphics on this game are great looking but they could have been a little better (especially the shunken ship
level, take a look at the skeletons.)

Music&Sound/9: Your basic soothing ocean music. It can do one of two things: make you relaxed or drive you crazy. For me, it was a little of both. The sound is somewhat muted, but what did I expected, your underwater for most of the game.

Story/8: From what I can tell from the intro, the story starts off sometime in the past, where there is a big reward for these huge, mosnter fish. One ship set out to capture these huge beast. But met a untimly fate (by the storm or by the beast, no one knows). Flash forward to the future, where
two explorers set there sights on finding both the shunken ship and the monster fish. Pfft, if I wanted this story, I could've watched Titanic. Oh well, Sega tried.

Gameplay/9: While gun games are great, they always did one thing. Make are arms sore for holding the lightgun too long.
Not so with Ocean Hunter. Instead, you seat on a cushion seat and hold on to a spear shooting thingy. Speaking of which, this a crosshair game. Which means you aim a little circle at a enemy and fire, that pretty much it. Being true to the name the game throws all sorts of marine life after you: sharks, squids, barracudas, even a loch ness-like creature. And as the first reviewer said, Sega designed it
so you get killed no matter what. (man are they some slick devils). Bring a whole patch of money if you want to beat this game.

All in all: While the Ocean Hunter isn't a great game, it not very bad either, if in some case your into underwater games or crosshaired shooters. But give it a try when you see it, you might have a whale of a time.
