The House of the Dead
Review by TheEvilZombie1
"The addiction of light gun games starts here."
The score is from the first time I experienced the game. And I LOVED IT. It was a god to me, to be blunt. In fact, even to this day I try to perfect my aiming skills and reflexes with this game, or one of its sequels.
Price:
Varies. It goes usually 25 cents, to a whopping 75. But at the cheapest, 15 cents at nickle arcades. Great places to practice.
Game play: This game is awesome. Newbies to the Light Gun games shouldn't have too much trouble (bosses will be their main problems, with accuracy being an issue), and veterans should be perfecting their aiming (rescuing all the scientists is not easy).
The setup is also simple: your gun is an unusual pistol that only seems to hold 6 bullets, though they are a decent caliber. Scientists give life for you saving their weak butts (An axe is reasonable, but getting whacked? come on, they're not THAT weak...Rogan and G both take up to 3-30 hits [varies on skill] a game, and they're fine!), boxes and other breakables yield life or points, and there are various paths to choose from (big doors or shoot through the chains? Decisions decisions...), each possessing easier or harder enemies. That about sums it up.
Plot: Your part of a secret agency called AMS. You investigate a mansion thats being taken over by evil demented zombies, or other unimaginable horrors. You kick ass. Thats about it...
Graphics: blocky, bloody, and at the time, great. nowadays, they pale in comparison. But its a cool game nonetheless.
Sounds: Uh.....It sounds...Like your being attacked and your firing a gun? The sounds are reasonable without being horrible. It IS an old game.
Re-playability: Trust me, this is the highlight of any Light Gun game. Most people live their lives trying to perfect their score to the highest possible. Others just want to do everything correctly. Kinda like DDR, only with a gun.
Overall: Well there are very few bad points, save the fact that if you cant shoot for your life, you should stay far away from this game. anybody else, give it a whirl and prove you escaped from the house of the dead.
