Arctic Thunder
Review by GoldenMagikarp
"Am I the only one who DIDN'T like Hydro Thunder?"
I guess so. Because I just think Arctic Thunder PWNS! >P
GAMEPLAY: 7/10
The Gameplay is less than stellar. I mean, there are just SO many racing games out there (most notable, GT4, Burnout, and Need for Speed IMO) that the thing that makes it so good is it's originality.
ORIGINALITY: 9/10
People probably have made a snowmobile game prior to this. But this definitely shines above the rest. First, there's an all new attack mode. The courses can be challenging (depending on how good you are and if you're playing friends, or what course it is), and the players are awesome (Agent 5 with Pink?). That and multiplayer up to 8. And the vibrating seat.
VIBRATING SEAT: 10/10
Here's a category no one's ever done! The vibrating seat (which on one my ARC's machines, is broken!) provides the real feel of snowmobiling (as well as a few moments of giddyness! XD) and also helps the gaming experience (when you fall of your snowmobile or get a power boost, or getting hit with an unfortunate super attack).
CONTROLS: 10/10
10/10 for simplicity. Gas, turn, Start, Beat the sh- er, Attack.
COURSES/PLAYERS: 8/10
The courses only have simple difficulty and a few shortcuts. The courses have quite a few power-ups and power boots (which gets me wicked excited). The players themselves have various powers (one's even a gorilla!) and seem to be good. My lucky player is Agent 5 on a Pink Snowmobile. I have never lost a multiplayer race since! Really, never!
GRAPHICS/SOUND: 5/10
The graphics are okay. Obviously (shouldn't have to explain this one) it's almost all white. But there are good points such as the inside of the Himalayan Ruins, the Capital, the inside of Chernobyl, etc. The sound is barely audible, which its good because it's the same as much race music so far. the sound effects get a bug plus (maybe 3 points?)
REPLAYABILITY: 7/10
I love this game; I go to my arcade and bang out $5 just on this. And I get a lot for it (1 game for 1 token XD!). You can head to your local arcade if you really like the game. If you hve the PS2 or XBox version you can always play for all gold and the prestigious......Snowman! You may not like it as much, however.
OVERALL: 7/10
Definitely worth checking out. The races, the attack system, the crappy music, and that vibrating seat. I'm not stealing anyone's idea, i really do like the seat's realism and er, well, I shan't say it!
