Lupin III

Review by Teal_Sasuke

"An average game from the old school, no more. no less."

Most anime fans are familiar with the Lupin the 3rd series which spawned everything from dvd's to plushes and even pachinko machines. With that said, it be fair to say that it would also try to capitalize on the small but progressing video game movement (this game was made in the early 80's). The result is a truly mediocre experience.

The story is simply this, you pop in like a thief in the night, and try to snatch up all the loot. They really could've improved this story a lot.

The graphics are a sad disappointment for the time in which it was made. It reminds me of some of the first couple games being introduced to the public. Another thing is the design of Lupin(or lack thereof). Any one who has seen this series knows how lupin looks. He has never (to my knowledge) continuously wore a cowboy hat and a cape, and it makes him look even more goofier than he already is. It kind of confirms my belief that the creators knew they a had a lackluster title on their hands and decided to slap a license to try to save themselves.

The sound is what you'd expect, a very annoying loop of music (a term in which I use loosely). There are no other sound effects to speak of other than the silence you will hear after you die, which you'll hear a lot of.

The gameplay works like a poor man's "Lock and Chase" or perhaps a "Bagman". You basically get money from point A to point B without Hitting bad guys C. Everything is pretty straightforward, you can choose whether to pickup one or two bags of cash. Grabbing two will slow you down more. After this, there's no other extras. No revenge pick-up, no extra points nothing. This makes the game unnecessarily difficult.

This is simply another average game trying to get a few extra quarters by slapping on a license and rolling all that tie-in cash. Just pass this one up and try something along the lines of bagman. It'll be more fun than playing an average game.
