Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

Review by MegaNeo

"A great improvement"

Intro

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got their first arcade game back in 1989. While it was a good game, it had its flaws and wasn't as great as some other arcade beat 'em ups. Then in 1991, Konami released the next TMNT arcade game, Turtles in Time. Turtles in Time takes everything from the first game and improves it greatly. This is a must play beat 'em up in my opinion.

Graphics and Sound 9

The graphics for Turtles in Time have improved a lot from the first game. NO longer are the graphics a little blurry. The detail level has been brought up pretty well. The turtles have very smooth movements. The sound for the game is about the same as TMNT, except this has some more voice acting. You have some very basic music for the game, just some catchy tunes, nothing special but nothing boring.

Story 8

The story starts out with April doing a new broadcast, when all of a sudden Krang swoops down and steals the Statue of Liberty. The turtles are off to stop Krang, but eventually Shredder sends the turtles back in time! The turtles have to get back to their own time and stop Shredder.

Game play 9

Like the first TMNT arcade game, this is a 2-d side scroller beat 'em up. You and up to four friends can pick one of the turtles and start playing. Every turtle in the game has a unique feel, whether it's that one does more damage or one has higher defense. The turtles face countless Foot Soldiers in each stage, 8 stages in all, to try to make it to the end of the stage where you face a boss. The bosses are easier than the bosses from the first TMNT, but some are still pretty hard. The combos for Turtles in Time are better than the first one, they flow together much better and have a better feel to them, making things more simple, and more fun!

Replay 8

Turtles in Time is fun to play many times. The amount of fun you get out of the game increases if you have four players. The game is a blast to play and will not get old very quickly.

Overall 9

This is a great beat 'em up game, a wonderful improvement over the first one. If you like this, try The Simpson's arcade game.
