Zombie Revenge

Review by Nivla

"Perhaps one of the only survival horror games that is good enough to rival the Resident Evil series"

The genre of survival horror sure is slim. With only Resident Evil on it's side, the genre only has one successful game, but despite of that, it's one of the highest selling catagory on the market! But a new game has bursted onto the scene. Called Zombie Revenge, it goes into the survival horror genre, but it uses the a 3-D beat-em-up engine. Lots of games have tried to beat the Resident Evil series, but none has done it successfully. Zombie Revenge just might be the first.

First off, although this is a survival horror game, it dissapoints when it comes to scaring players. It does not really scare the player at all. However, the story does follow the formula of a survival horror game. A man named Zed is responsible for turning the citizens of a major city into mindless zombies. Three agents engange in a man hunt for this one person.

The gameplay is really quite spectacular. First, there is the traditional Resident Evil way of fighting. By pumping tons of lead into the bad guy. You can also pick up differnet types of guns such as a machine gun or a laser gun. But in addition to that the characters can punch the zombies, creating a combo, much like the Final Fight series. The character can also preform a jumping attack and dashing attack, which is a very good change from just shooting the zombies. But what makes attacking so easy (especially if you're using a gun) is that your target is circled, so that you will know just who you're shooting at. The controlls are tough to master. Controlling your character can be a nightmare to learn. But once you start to learn it (it may require up to a few dollars worth of playing at the arcade before you can master controlling your character), the game will be easy to controll and you'll enjoy it so much more. There is a huge challenge in the game. Only the very beginning is easy. Then the dificulty sky rockets.

The graphics are done very nicely. Everything is done to perfection. From character models to buildings, everything is a pleasure to look at. Also, the FMVs (full motion videos) run very smoothly. There is no hint of a glitch anywhere in terms of the visual aspect. Also, there is a nice use of colors to creat a dank and creepy mood to the setting, which is very important because this is a survival horror game after all. Also, the expressions on the character's face are done very well. You can see what the characters is feeling by just looking at their faces.

The audio is also done very well. For once the voice acting is done very well. Also, all the sounds sound very realistic. From the sound of a door opening to the sound of a bullet, to the sound of a punch landing on the undead, it's all so real.

The fun factor of this game is really high. Since it has more of a light hearted atmosphere for a survival horror game. It is more fun then scary! The replay value is average. After finishing the game, you may want to play the game again, you may not, it depends on the player.

In conclusion, this is a game well worth the money and time. It is a nice change from classic survival horror like the Resident Evil series.
