Dizzy
Review by Lagunathemoron
"And around and around and around and around and around!"
Unpopular characters of video gaming are still getting a nice slice of the cake. Look at Rayman for example, he isn't as popular as he was but is still getting in the spotlight. Another example is Earthworm Jim, not as popular as he once was, but is still getting new releases. We need to face facts really, whilst Jim and Ray are featuring good games, old classics are in need of remakes, Dizzy is one of them, along with several others. Alfred Chicken and Hugo have made the spotlight, so why not Dizzy?
Well rather than turning this review in to a rant on how Dizzy needs a revival, I will praise it instead. The Humpty Dumpty look alike egg is on a quest to save the day, as you do. It is not just one platform to another, but it has Lucasart's influence of graphic adventure added it, Dizzy can talk to people, pick up things, use things, the lot.
The hybrid makes Dizzy what it was, a nice classic. Magic ingrediants also made the game something to open a shrine to, one aspect is Dizzy's animation, where he is always jogging on the spot and wobbling. It is not a typical Mario or Sonic neither, you do not go from left to right, but from left to right to left to left to right, you start the quest off in the middle of the level and must go in all directions, including up and down to get items or find essential clues.
So basically it is a graphic adventure, you could call it that but you would then be ignoring the point of platforming. To get to this castle, the drawbridge is down and there is a shark in the moat making itself dizzy by going in all directions, you just have to jump on it hilst it is moving and Dizzy will bounce, just as he is about to hit the water, he will bounce on to the shark again, suming up three times before he makes it to the toher side.
The puzzles in Dizzy are quite tough, but then again is worth the time and effort, especially when you want to get past a mean troll and have to give him something. Dizzy is quite fantastic with these mad moments and interesting puzzles and platform elements.
