Lemmings

Review by pr0t0typ3

"A timeless classis"

Game play 10/10

Lemmings is a highly addictive very simple game. The idea is very simply to save as many lemmings as you can by whatever means necessary. One of the few great pick up and play games and nearly as hard to put down as tetris.
However on the downside this is also one of the most frustrating games you will ever play. All levels can be beaten but more often than not you will have pulled out most of your hair by the time you realize how.

Control 9/10

The control on lemmings is simple. It is just a matter of pointing and clicking. First up you select, from the list of icons, what action you wish for a lemming to perform. Then you select the lemming you wish to carry out this task. The only thing against you is time. I guarantee on each level the first thing you do will be pause the game so that you can plan out your strategy.

Graphics 6/10

The graphics aren't great but considering how old the game is there not that bad. They would be on a par with the original worms on the playstation. Once you realize what each of the icons mean the graphics are probably the least important part of the game.

Sound 9/10

The soundtrack will be banging about in the back of your head for weeks. You will spend ages trying to work out where you have heard the simple but catchy tunes before, then it will dawn on you, most of the soundtrack is made up of children's nursery rhymes.
Throw in the amusing OH NO uttered by lemmings about to explode and the YIPPEE of lemmings that have been saved and this is a very funny soundtrack.

Overall 8/10

This game is one of the most memorable I have ever played and I would without a doubt recommend it to anyone who is interested. I'm not sure where you would be able to pick this classic up anymore, I am fortunate to still have this in perfect working order. Lemmings is a game that will never get old. It has all of the requirements of a great game and even overshadows some of the games being released on newer formats.
Created in a time when enjoyment was more important than graphics and depth lemmings is a true giant amongst games. The original real time strategy.

Conclusion

To sum up, if you can get a hold of this game then make sure you give it a try. Younger gamers have no idea what they have missed.
