1. Introduction
===============================================================================
Made in 1982 for the Apple II, The Dark Crystal was the seventh Hi-Res
adventure made by On-Line Systems (later known as Sierra Entertainment). This
is one of the best early games made by the company. The graphics are well
designed and the text is very descriptive when compared to some of the earlier
Hi-Res adventures. The game takes place in the land of Thra, where a gelfling
named Jen must fulfill a prophecy by returning a shard to the dark crystal. It
is a lot easier to understand what is going on if you have seen the film, but
if you haven't the seen the film the game is still definitely worth playing.

2. Walkthrough
===============================================================================
The game starts in the mountain valley. LOOK and a mystic will tell Jen to talk
to Ursu. Move EAST to the mountainside. GET the SHALE. Move WEST four times and
NORTH to the candle-lit cavern. TALK to URSU to read about the dark crystal.
Move SOUTH, EAST twice and NORTH to the shadowy path. DIG using the shale to
uncover a flute. GET the FLUTE. Move NORTH twice to the pond. CUT the LILY pad
using the shale. Move EAST to the brook. LISTEN to the BROOK to hear directions
to the swamp. Move EAST three times and NORTH twice to the swamp. USE the LILY
pad to paddle across the swamp. Move NORTH and EAST to get caught by the vines.
LOOK four times and a hand holding an eyeball will appear. TALK to the HAND to
hear Aughra. Say the words MOON DAUGHTERS and she will let Jen down from the
tree. LOOK to be taken back to Aughra's observatory. When she asks what Jen
wants, answer a crystal SHARD. Aughra puts four shards on the table and tells
Jen to choose one. Choose the BLUE shard (the flute can be played to show that
the blue shard is the correct one). The garthrim are nearby, so GO out the
WINDOW to land in the eerie bog. Move SOUTH and WEST to the boggy section of
the swamp. Call out for HELP to be rescued from the swamp by Kira.
TURN over the SHELL to find a small pouch. GET the POUCH. GO into the SHELL to
sail to the pod village. Move SOUTH to encounter the garthrim. THROW a smoke
SEED from the pouch to escape the garthrim. Move WEST three times to the hill
of the landstriders. JUMP ON the landstriders. Move WEST five times, SOUTH
twice and WEST to the ravine. The garthrim attack, so JUMP into the ravine to
escape. GET KIRA while Jen is falling to land at the bottom of the ravine.
Move EAST in the ravine. SEND FIZZGIG. When asked where, enter SEND BARS. LOOK
and Fizzgig will return with a key. UNLOCK the GATE using the key. OPEN the
GATE. Move SOUTH, WEST, SOUTH and WEST twice to see the chamberlain grab Kira
and Fizzgig. Move SOUTH to the bottom of the huge pit. Jen wakes the garthrim
when he lands, so quickly RUN away from the garthrim and then GO through the
HOLE to arrive on the precarious ledge. Move UP, EAST, SOUTH and WEST to the
dusty closet to hide from the skeksis. Move EAST twice to the dining room.
GO behind the CURTAIN to hear the skeksis talk about a secret panel in the
tower. Move NORTH twice and WEST to the throne room. GET the SCEPTER. Move EAST
three times to the deserted tower. USE the HOOK on the scepter to open the
secret panel that the skeksis mentioned. Move EAST, UP and EAST to the balcony.
JUMP onto the crystal and Jen will drop the shard. When asked if you want to
save Kira, enter NO and she will throw the shard back up to Jen. USE the SHARD
in the crystal to heal it. KISS KIRA to save her and complete the game.

3. Item List
===============================================================================
BLUE CRYSTAL SHARD
Found in the observatory by asking Aughra for a crystal shard and selecting
the blue one. It is dropped after jumping onto the crystal in the crystal
chamber and is found again after answering no to the skeksis. After Kira has
thrown the shard back up to Jen, it is used in the dark crystal.
GREEN CRYSTAL SHARD
Found in the observatory. It is the wrong shard and should not be chosen.
KEY
Found by sending Fizzgig through the bars of the castle gate and waiting for
him to return. It is used to unlock the castle gate.
LARGE LILY PAD
Found by using the shale to cut the lily pad on the pond in the wilderness.
It is used at the southern edge of the swampland.
ORANGE CRYSTAL SHARD
Found in the observatory. It is the wrong shard and should not be chosen.
PIECE OF SHALE
Found on the mountainside in the valley of the stones. It is used when
digging on the shadowy path in the valley of the stones. It is used to cut
the lily pad on the pond in the wilderness.
POUCH
Found by turning over the shell after Jen has been rescued from the swamp by
Kira. The pouch contains smoke seeds which can be thrown at the garthrim.
SCEPTER
Found in the castle throne room. After hearing the skeksis in the dining room
talk about the secret panel, the hook at the end of the scepter is used in
the deserted tower to open the secret panel.
STRANGE-LOOKING FLUTE
Found by digging with the shale on the shadowy path in the valley of the
stones. It can be used in Aughra's observatory to show the correct shard.
VIOLET CRYSTAL SHARD
Found in the observatory. It is the wrong shard and should not be chosen.
