1. Introduction
===============================================================================
Made in 1981 for the Apple II, Ulysses and the Golden Fleece was the fifth
Hi-Res adventure made by On-Line Systems (later known as Sierra Entertainment).
The game takes place in ancient Greece, where the King tells Ulysses to find a
legendary golden fleece. After getting a crew and boarding the King's boat,
Ulysses sets off for the Island of Storms to begin his search for the fleece.

2. Walkthrough
===============================================================================
TOWN
----
The game starts on the road. Move SOUTH and WEST three times to the entry hall
of the castle. TALK to the GUARD and he will ask if you are Ulysses. Say YES to
be taken to the throne room. BOW to the King and he will tell Ulysses to find
the golden fleece. Move EAST twice, NORTH and WEST to the store. BUY the FLINT,
BUY the LEATHER, BUY the ROPE, BUY the SWORD, BUY the WAX, BUY the WINE and BUY
the WOOD. Leave the lantern as it is not used in the game. PAY the MAN.
Move NORTH to the alley. GET the gold COIN. Move NORTH to the tavern. GET the
CREW. Move EAST, SOUTH, EAST, SOUTH twice, EAST twice and NORTH to the chest in
the forest. GET the CHEST. Move WEST, SOUTH, WEST, NORTH twice, WEST and NORTH
to the docks. GET the BOTTLE in the ocean. GIVE the COIN to the guard and say
YES when he asks if you are trying to bribe him to get the map. Move EAST to
the King's private dock. Move NORTH to the SHIP. GO to the OCEAN.
OCEAN
-----
Move NORTH and WEST to see an albatross drop a bag. GET the BAG. Move EAST,
SOUTH and EAST to see a condor drop into the boat. GET the CONDOR. Move EAST to
the hurricane. Follow the directions on the map that the guard gave you by
moving NORTH twice, EAST, SOUTH, WEST, SOUTH, WEST, SOUTH, EAST, NORTH, EAST,
NORTH and EAST twice to see the island. GO to the ISLAND.
ISLAND OF STORMS
----------------
Move EAST and SOUTH twice to the jungle. GET the BRIDLE. Move EAST and SOUTH.
LOOK at the HOLE in the tree and GET the DUST from it. Move NORTH, WEST, NORTH
five times, UP, NORTH, EAST and NORTH to the open room. GET the NOTE from the
bottle. GET the WATER from the spring to fill the bottle. Move SOUTH, NORTH,
DOWN, SOUTH, EAST, SOUTH, EAST, SOUTH and EAST to the deep fjord. TIE the
LEATHER strap. When asked what to tie it to, tie it TO the other LEATHER strap.
THROW the LEATHER strap to the other side of the fjord. Move EAST, NORTH, EAST
and NORTH to the dragon's cave. GIVE the GEMS to the dragon and he will leave.
Move EAST, NORTH, EAST and NORTH to the canyon. GET the FEATHERS from the
condor. MAKE WINGS. When asked with what, type WITH FEATHERS. When asked with
what else, type AND WAX. FLY across to the other side of the canyon. GET the
ROCK to see the reins. GET the REINS. Move DOWN, WEST twice and SOUTH to see
Pluto. THROW the DUST at Pluto and he will leave. Move SOUTH and EAST twice to
see the fire. POUR the WINE. When asked where, type ON SELF. Move SOUTH and
EAST. GO through the HOLE. Move SOUTH and WEST to the beach. GO to the SHIP.
OCEAN
-----
Move NORTH twice, WEST and NORTH twice to see Neptune. POUR the WATER from the
bottle. When asked where, type IN the OCEAN and Neptune will leave. Move NORTH,
EAST twice and NORTH to the sirens' island. HOLD the WAX to soften it. PLUG
the EARS of the crew using the wax. TIE SELF. When asked to what, enter TO the
MAST. Say YES when asked whether you want to tie yourself to the mast. The
sirens sing a rhyme and the boat will safely pass the island. MOVE WEST, NORTH,
WEST and NORTH three times to the island. GO to the ISLAND.
ISLAND OF THE CYCLOPS
---------------------
Move NORTH twice, WEST twice and NORTH to the ruins. Say the word SEVENSEAS and
the harpes will leave. OPEN the CAGE and GET the MALLET. Move EAST twice,
SOUTH, EAST and NORTH to the cave. GIVE the WINE to the cyclops. When the
cyclops asks what is needed to make the wine, answer GRAPES and he will leave.
GET the tree TRUNK. SHARPEN the TRUNK using the sword. LOOK twice and the
cyclops will return. USE the TRUNK. When asked where, type IN the EYE of the
cyclops and he will leave the cave. MAKE a FIRE using the flint and the wooden
planks from the shop. The crew will be hungry at this point, so with the fire
started you can now KILL the SHEEP, COOK the SHEEP and then EAT the SHEEP.
Move SOUTH twice, EAST and NORTH to the large clearing. Say the word ECEELF and
the chest will open. LOOK at the CHEST and GET the enchanted SWORD. USE the
SWORD to kill the group of skeletons. Move EAST and NORTH twice to the cliff.
Say the word SUPPELTUEL and a door in the cliff will open. Move NORTH to the
small valley. USE the MALLET to break the chain holding Pegasus. GIVE the
BRIDLE and GIVE the REINS to Pegasus. RIDE PEGASUS and he will jump over the
thorns. GET the FLEECE from the tree. RIDE PEGASUS to return to the town.
TOWN
----
Move WEST to the entry hall. TALK to the GUARD. Say YES when he asks if you are
Ulysses. GIVE the golden FLEECE to the King to complete the game.

3. Item List
===============================================================================
5 LBS OF WAX
Available after the 25 lbs of wax has been used to make the wings. It is held
to soften the wax. It is used to plug the ears of the crew at the Island of
the Sirens.
25 LBS OF WAX
Bought from the store. It is used with the giant feathers to make the wings.
BAG OF GEMS
Dropped by an albatross while in the boat on the ocean. It is opened to find
the priceless gems.
BAG OF GOLD
Found by bowing to the King. It is used to buy items from the store.
BAG OF SILVER
Found after bowing to the King. It is used to buy items from the store.
BOTTLE
Found on the docks. It is filled from water in the cave on the Island of
Storms to get the full bottle.
CHEST
Found in the forest. The chest contains an enchanted sword after the magic
word ECEELF has been entered.
EMPTY BAG
Available after taking the gems from the bag of gems. It is not used.
ENCHANTED MALLET
Found by rescuing the man from the ruins on the Island of the Cyclops. It is
used to break the chain holding Pegasus on the Island of the Cyclops.
ENCHANTED SWORD
Found by looking in the chest after saying the magic word ECEELF. It is used
to kill the skeletons on the Island of the Cyclops.
EMPTY BOTTLE
Available after the full bottle has been poured into the ocean near Neptune.
It is not used.
EMPTY SKIN OF WINE
Available after the wine has been poured on the main character in the game.
It is not used.
FLINT
Bought from the store. It is used with the wooden planks to make the fire in
the cave on the Island of the Cyclops.
FULL BOTTLE
Found by filling the bottle from the cave on the Island of Storms. It is
poured into the ocean when Neptune appears.
GIANT CONDOR
Found in the boat while on the ocean. The giant feathers are taken from it.
GIANT FEATHERS
Found on the condor. It is used with the 25 lbs of wax to make the wings.
GOLD COIN
Found in the alley one screen north from the store. It is given to the guard
on the docks to bribe him for the map.
GOLDEN FLEECE
Found at the top of the tree on the Island of the Cyclops after Pegasus has
jumped over to the small valley. It is given to the King.
JEWELED BRIDLE
Found in the forest on the Island of Storms. It is given to Pegasus on the
Island of the Cyclops.
LONG LEATHER STRAPS
Bought from the store. They are tied together and thrown over the chasm in
the cave on the Island of Storms.
MAP
Found by giving the gold coin to the guard on the docks and answering yes
when he asks if you are trying to bribe him. It has directions for finding
the Island of the Storm from the storm on the ocean.
NAKED BIRD
Found by getting the feathers from the condor. It is not used.
NOTE
Found in the bottle of wine. It shows the magic word ECEELF.
OPEN CHEST
Available after opening the chest. It is not used.
PRICELESS GEMS
Found in the bag of gems. They are given to the dragon in the cave on the
Island of Storms.
ROCK
Found in the underground passageway in the cave on the Island of Storms. It
is picked up and dropped after the ruby studded reins have been taken.
RUBY STUDDED REINS
Found under the rock in the cave on the Island of Storms. It is given to
Pegasus on the Island of the Cyclops.
SKIN OF WINE
Bought from the store. It is poured on the main character in the game so that
he can walk through the wall of fire in the cave on the Island of Storms.
SKIN OF WINE
Bought from the store. It is given to the cyclops on the Island of the
Cyclops.
SPARKLING DUST
Found in the hole in the tree on the Island of Storms. It is thrown at Pluto
in the cave on the Island of Storms.
SWORD
Bought from the store. It is used to sharpen the tree trunk. It is used to
kill the sheep in the cave on the Island of the Cyclops.
TREE TRUNK
Found in the gigantic cave on the Island of the Cyclops. It is sharpened with
the sword and is then used in the cyclops' eye on the Island of the Cyclops.
WINGS
Made by combining the 25 lbs of wax and the giant feathers. They are used to
fly over the great canyon in the cave on the Island of Storms.
WOODEN PLANKS
Bought from the store. It is used with the flint to start a fire in the cave
on the Island of the Cyclops.
