Commodore 64

Review by Sephiroth101

"The perfect computer"

So, what is a Commodore 64?
The best personal computer system ever released.

Now, it had terrible sounds and graphics, but for its time (1980's) it was top notch. This thing is a 'personal computer' according to the packaging. Its basically a keyboard/cpu together that hooks up to a TV and devices like external floppy disk readers. (Yea, those 5 inch ones).

The thing that made this so great were two things. First, a HUGE library of games. Thousands literally. Next was that you could program in it too in BASIC, so beginners and veterans alike can make games with ease! If you use a Ti Calculator, and you like making games on it, then you will feel at home here. Anyways, time to review!

Graphics - 7/10
They were nice for the time, but in all honesty, they are pretty blinding now. Its still enjoyable though, and if you mixed the 16 colors correctly then you could make some nice graphics. This is basically what you would see on a Nintendo.

Sound - 8/10
Alright. Now, with sound, it has the capability to be great depending on if the programmer knew what he did. You couldn't record MP3s and throw it with the game back then people. The basic way to make sound would be by 'poking' memory locations to make ugly beep sounds. If the programmer did it right, you get nice sound, otherwise get ready for digitized 'beep' music, much like on the Gameboy.

Games - 10/10
EXCELLENT! First, off, you have games from everywhere. Mario, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Ultima IV, Metal Gear, and more and more and more. The best thing about it is that you can make your own games very easily, provided you have some of those huge floppy disks lying around. It programs in a form of Basic, so its real easy. The games are fun and enjoyable for the computer. There are RPGs, Puzzles, and just about every genre ever thought of. Perfect.

Multiplayer - 10/10
Very nice. There are two joystick ports on the side for two players to play. Sometimes 6 or 8 players can play alternating too. You can even hook up the Commodore 64 to the internet if you read a guide to do it!

Attachments - 10/10
So how many things can you hook up to it?
Tons. It has tape players, floppy disk readers, cartridge ports, joystick ports, modem hookup, voice recorders, ect, ect, ect. There are TONS of things to pop into it. Now, if you plan on buying one you need a Commodore 64 joystick, the Commodore 64/Keyboard, a TV, an external floppy disk drive, and the right connecting cables to hook it all up.

Overall - 10/10
Its just so solid. At the time of the writing (2003), there are STILL games being made for emulators and the real thing. This thing can give you hours of enjoyment. I really reccomend getting one somehow. This thing is GOOD.
