Rags to Riches

Review by jimfish

"Does anybody even look back?"

Yes, the title *actually* means something for this review. Gamers today all have their tastes, but the big crowd sweeper at the moment is realism. Fable is the most known and loved, but does anybody take any notice of this? Rags to Riches is a classic title about a poor, downtrodden homeless tramp who is trying to succeed in life. Who can argue with such a great plot? Nobody.

Rags to Riches is a simple game with a high goal. You're a homeless man, as I've said, and you must raise yourself from the gutter. How? By a series of tasks of course! At first you're just a stinky, gruff, unshaven and freshly released from prison bum who needs cash. To raise that cash, it's just a simple "Collect-the-Items" job. The job isn't anything extravagant yet, but for now you're going to be headed all around the city collecting loose change from the ground, or empty bottles to exchange for cash. It's simple at first, but soon all sorts of options are available to you, such as getting a real job at a gas-station or sneaking into the back of a junkyard to steal a whole horde of bottles...

You've got a job now, right? Well, don't think the game ends there. We want riches...Wall Street riches, so you need to keep rising the corporate ladder. It's not as simple as that though, as challenging enemies will happily knock you down a peg or two. Policemen will come along and arrest you if you still loiter around the city as a vagrant; robbers and muggers will jump you and run off with your precious cash; and worst of all...THE DREADED IRS MAN!.

The graphics of this title are amazing for the day. Great colours and animation make up a tremendous game, and not to mention a fitting soundtrack to meet with the feel of the character. Excellent.

Now, this title is certainly worth its weight in gold. It's a priceless addition to anybody's collection and deserves to be played again and again. What are you waiting for?
