01. Introduction and Guide Information [0001]
================================================================================
This guide was written by Bryan R. Pleger (aka Dax105/DaxZero). It was written
mainly because an FAQ for Jazz Jackrabbit 2 did not exist at the time and
because the author still loves the game.
**Before getting started on anything, I highly advise people to get the 1.23
patch. It can be found on most major "gaming" sites on the internet.
Adrenaline Vault is one such site that still has the ancient patch. If you can't
find it, just search for "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 patch" in a search engine and the
patch should turn up.**
This guide contains a listing of all known objects, enemies, bosses, goodies,
and just about everything else to offer. This guide does NOT contain a
walkthrough on every level. It includes a brief synopsis of each Episode, but
nothing more. This was done primarily because this game is not too difficult to
figure out and get to the end. There are no complex puzzles or difficult parts
calling for a helping hand. Although a few emails may persuade the author to
write one up. (hint, hint) Final note, this guide primarily concentrates on the
single player aspect of this game. There is a separate section for Multiplayer.
Also present is a cheap search system used in most other guides. To use it, copy
the number shown in the Table of Contents next to the section you want. Use your
browser's "Find on this page" option (Default CTRL+F for Internet Explorer) and
paste the number in. The section will be the first to show up.

03. Story and Characters
================================================================================
Recap of Jazz Jackrabbit 1================================================[0003]
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 starts off right where Jazz Jackrabbit 1 ended. For those who
never played Jazz Jackrabbit 1, here is a quick summary. The game is based on
the Turtle vs. the Hare 2000 years later. The characters are all anthropomorphic
animals set in a slightly cartoony universe. The story first begins with the
evil Devan Shell kidnapping Princess Eva Earlong and holding her ransom to try
and take over her home planet Carrotus. Devan has numerous minions and devices
set up to make his invasion force on numerous crazy worlds.
However, the Hero/Protagonist of the game, Jazz Jackrabbit, comes in and blasts
away Devan's army and his setups on the numerous worlds. Finally ending with
Jazz destroying the Twin Battleships Devan was going to use to invade Carrotus,
destroying a giant evil clone of himself, and saving Eva Earlong!
The Story Now=============================================================[0004]
The game takes place not too long after Jazz saved Eva. Jazz is to be wed to Eva
for his heroic deeds. Jazz invites his somewhat unstable brother, Spaz, who is
slightly spastic and somewhat insane. However, Devan Shell plots away in a
secret lab somewhere in the galaxy. He has devised a new plan to take over
Carrotus: The Time Machine! With it, Devan will go back in time and rewrite
Carrotus history to one where he and Turtles rule all! Unfortunately, he lacks
only one component: A power source. Devan needs a special gem to finish his
device, and the only one that can is the one in Jazz and Eva's wedding!
Back at the wedding, things were proceeding with some difficulty. Spaz almost
forgets the wedding ring, but when he brings it in, the ring is dwarfed by a
huge diamond attached to it. The ceremony was about to begin, but then...
*BOOM*
A lizard from Devan Shell blew open a hole in the wall and proceeded to simply
take the ring and fly off on his helicopter restraint! Eva's mother, the queen,
was furious that Devan was still running amuck on the kingdom and blamed Jazz
for his failure to finish him off. She calls the wedding off and has Jazz thrown
into the dungeon! Spaz however, knows that he has to get his brother out and
stop Devan! He manages to sneak into the dungeon and help unshackle Jazz.
All this is told in the manual in a panel comic. But this is where Jazz
Jackrabbit 2 begins.
Main Characters===========================================================[0005]
Jazz: The main character of the game series. He is the heroic green bunny with
the big gun foiling Devan Shell's evil plots. Kickass and fast, he's the hare
with an attitude. He wears a red bandana, blue backpack, and golden cuffs on his
arms. He has a large blue gun and his special moves are the Uppercut and
Helicopter Ears.
Spaz: Jazz's way wacked out brother. Spaz seems to have suffered some brain
damage as a child. An insane red bundle of fur that moves as fast as Jazz.
He shoots with a short green gun with the same firepower as Jazz'. He wears blue
cuffs and what appear to be blue boots or shoes. His special moves are the
Sidekick and Double Jump.
Devan: The evil mastermind of the game. Devan is constantly trying to
succeed in conquering Carrotus and destroying Jazz. He appears as a geeky
looking turtle with a purple shell, red eyes, and big dorky glasses. An evil
genius with many wacky minions at his disposal.
Eva: She's the princess of Carrotus and constant damsel-in-distress. She is a
blue tall rabbit with a pink dress and an attitude. She was kidnapped in Jazz
Jackrabbit 1 as a hostage in Devan's plans, but was freed by Jazz. She was to
be married to Jazz, but a minion of Devan ruined the marriage. Eva doesn't
really play a major role in this game.

04. Game Settings and Controls
================================================================================
**NOTE: This next section is boring. Most will want to skip it.**
Main Menu=================================================================[0006]
The menu offers five options for the player. Navigation is default up and down
arrow keys.
New Game - Start either a Single Player or Multiplayer game
Load Game - Continue from a Single Player game you saved at. Only 5 saves.
High Scores - See a list of names with scores nearby. The Best of the Best
Option - Customize your options
Exit - Exit the game. Also get presented with credits
Options===================================================================[0007]
The basic setup of the game. Change how the game runs.
Controls: Setup what hardware controls the game and what button does an action.
Move left or right at the top to change what you want to control the characters.
Hit enter then a key to change what button does what.
Video: Set the video options for the game. Frankly, any computer today or 4
years ago can run this game smoothly at high settings. You can change the
resolution and change the advanced settings. Change the resolution to 640x480
at 16 bit or 8 bit, whichever you prefer. For advanced, keep Hardware mode OFF,
turn Textured 3D background on, ambient lighting on, MMX capabilities on, and
keep detail on high. This will give the best looking game.
Sound: Set the volume options for the game. Like Video, anything nowadays can
easily run this game. You can change the volume of either sound or background
music. Advanced options are best left at the following for the best sound
settings.
Output sound - Direct sound
Sampling rate - High
Mixing Precision - 16 bit
Interpolation - Off
Language: Select a language you want the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 to write in. If
you're reading this guide, you probably don't need to change this.

LEFT or RIGHT CONTROl: Jump
SHIFT: Speed
SPACEBAR: Shoot

================================================================================
05. Basic Game Control
================================================================================
Interface=================================================================[0009]
The game has very few icons on the screen. Most people could no doubt figure
them out in a heartbeat, but just for content, I'll list what they all are.
Score: The numbers in the top left. Increases as you destroy stuff and get
goodies.
Health: The 5 Hearts in the top left. Decreases as you are hurt by enemies or
fall on sharp stuff. Lose all 5 and you lose a life.
Lives: The # in the bottom left. Has your character's head and the number of
lives you have left. Lose all your lives and you can choose to continue.
Ammo: The small icon of your weapon in the bottom right. Along with the ammo
remaining for the selected weapon.
Coin/Gem counter: This only appears when you collect a gem or coin. A small
number appear in the bottom middle with the amount of gems or coins you have.
Main Menu: Appears when hitting escape. See Main Menu in section IV.
Movement==================================================================[0010]
MOVEMENT is very basic in the game. Press the button that corresponds to the
button assigned to it.
SPEED is an important thing to master in the game. When holding the speed key,
your character will move faster and run with a white streak behind. This affects
jumping and influences anything that involves movement. It is important to
master this as it helps at dodging and getting to high places.
SPEED UP is done by tapping the speed key. Your character will speed up in place
and when released, dash forward. This has no real benefit.
Take note that climbing up slopes will not slow you down.
Shooting==================================================================[0011]
Shooting is also very basic. Pressing the fire key will cause your character to
fire their gun. By default your weapons is selected to the Blaster. Your
current weapon is displayed in the bottom right along with ammo. Nothing else
to be said.
Special Moves=============================================================[0012]
Jazz and Spaz each have 2 special moves only they can perform. They also have
the Buttstomp. These are powerful moves and the attack ones can cause some
invincibility at certain times.
Buttstomp: A move both Jazz and Spaz can perform. Press down when in the air to
cause Jazz and Spaz to spin down and smash anything below.
UpperCut: A move only Jazz can use. Press down when on the ground and then
jump. Be careful to release down or else he'll do a butt stomp shortly after.
Jazz will jump highward fist in air and smash anything above.
SideKick: A move only Spaz can use. Press down when on the ground and then
jump. Spaz will do a long jumping sideways kick karate style and smash anything
in front.
Take note that all of the above moves can destroy ! Blocks and also find Hidden
Gem Stomps (more one those later).
Helicopter: A move only Jazz can use. Press jump when in the air and Jazz will
use his ears to hover like a helicopter. Jazz will slowly go down, but this is
nice to cross over pits or simply get around. Take note that jump must be
pressed again or else Jazz will fall normally. Light tapping is more than
adequate.
Double Jump: A move only Spaz can use. Press jump after jumping again and Spaz
will do a quick, small, midair jump. This is good when getting to high places
and timed when beginning to fall can help avoid anything nasty below or help
move across a pit.

06. Quick Episode Synopsis [0013]
================================================================================
It's time to get crack'in! Here's a quick snyopsis of the "areas" and Episodes
of Jazz Jackrabbit 2. To start, select a new game, Single Player, and select
an episode. The first one is only available at start. Finished will appear
above every episode you have completed. This is saved automatically and you
never need to repeat that episode to start the next.
After selecting an episode, you'll be asked who to play, and then difficulty
level of either Easy, Medium, or Hard.
Episodes contain 6 levels, each with 3 "areas" and 2 levels for each area.
Areas are different from each other, and each level in an area is often a Day
and Night version of that area.
**Before getting started on anything, I highly advise people to get the 1.23
patch. It can be found on most major "gaming" sites on the internet.
Adrenaline Vault is one such site that still has the ancient patch. If you
can't find it, just search for "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 patch" in a search engine and
the patch should turn up.**
Formerly a Prince=========================================================[0014]
Jazz and Spaz must escape the Castle Dungeon, travel across the castle's carrot
gardens, and discover the evil lab of Devan Shell.
I'll quote from Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Online for what the picture to the right
represents. "It was copied from the front cover of the album "Purple Rain" by
Prince, a respected rockstar from quite a while back."
**Special Note: If you select easy when starting, you'll go to a short training
level before starting the main 2 levels of this area.**
Jazz in Time==============================================================[0015]
Jazz and Spaz find themselves thrown into strange lands and times of the
universe. They must travel through a strange colonial town, wander through an
Alice in Wonderland esque world, and then swim through a never ending beach of
sand and wood.
I'll quote from Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Online for what the picture to the right
represents. "Just like the Formerly a Prince episode, this episode image is
stolen. This time it is plagiarized from the movie poster of the first part of
the Back to the Future (1985) trilogy. Jazz is pictured as Marty McFly."
Flashback=================================================================[0016]
It's major Deja vu for anyone who played the original Jazz Jackrabbit. Jazz and
Spaz are right back at the very first episode of the original: Turtle Trouble!
Naturally, the areas have been beefed up and modified from Devan. Travel again
through Diamondus, Tube Electric, and Medivo!
No one's really sure where the inspiration for the picture for the level came
from. Guesses are that one of the makers was a real fan of the Sixties.
Monkey Trouble============================================================[0017]
The last episode of the game. Jazz and Spaz are finally ready to put an end to
Devan's plans. But first, they must travel through a jungle with crazy apes, go
way down and literally into the bowels of Hell itself! The showdown ends here!
The picture for the episode seems to be a little spin of the Bugs Bunny cartoons
and the numerous situations he was in. My guess anyways.
Home Cooked Levels========================================================[0018]
This isn't an episode. Rather, it's where all your custom Jazz Jackrabbit 2
levels show up! They're Home Made and the real things made by Jazz Jackrabbit 2
fans! If you download any fan-made levels, this is where they're probably going
to show up.
Shareware Demo============================================================[0019]
This is the original episode that people played if they downloaded the Jazz
Jackrabbit 2 Demo. 3 levels of some of the areas and one boss. Still worth
playing for.
The picture is obviously a parody of DOOM II. Interesting to say the least.
================================================================================
07. Bosses and Enemies
================================================================================
Enemy Listings============================================================[0020]
Ah yes, no game would be good without an array of foes to contend with. Here
are all the working enemies you'll meet in the game. The general rule for all
enemies is simple, shoot them! All enemies also have a chance of dropping either
a Red Gem, Green Gem, Blue Gem, FastFire, or Carrot. Listed Alphabetically.
Bat: A purple bat. Hangs from the walls and begins flapping towards you
when you get near. They don't stray from where they were originally hanging,
although it is possible to "lure" them slowly away.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Bee: A large bee. Flies at you when you get near. Although it quickly runs
back to it's original spot after a few seconds. Gets faster at higher
difficulties. Seeker Missiles are good at taking them out.
1 HIT 200 POINTS
Caterpillar: A large caterpillar. Blows smoke rings, which make you dizzy.
You can shoot him to make him dizzy, but he is indestructible.
Crab: A pink crab. Walks back and forth without care.
3 HITS 300 POINTS
Demon: A small red demon with a green trident. Waits on one spot until you get
in front or behind. He then "charges" back and forth trying to hit you.
2 HITS 100 POINTS
Dog: A brown hound sniffing around. If you hit him, he'll go mad and foam at
the mouth and speed up. This wears off quickly though.
3 HITS 200 POINTS
Dragon: A small green dragon. Doesn't move, but it breathes fire when it sees
you. Very short range though.
1 HIT 200 POINTS
Dragon Fly: A rather large dragonfly. It hovers around you when you get near,
but eventually moves in for a hit. Flamethrowers and Seeker Missiles are good
at taking them out.
1 HIT 200 POINTS
Fat Chick: An ugly "woman" turtle. Walks back and forth without care. Although
she has a very mean punch if you get near enough that sends you flying.
3 HITS 200 POINTS
Fencer: A Victorian esque turtle with a rapier. Bounces around a lot. Jumps at
you if you shoot near him and can be quite annoying. Get in some hits while he's
in midair as he can't jump over that.
3 HITS 400 POINTS
Fish: A blue/green fish. Only found in water, it just swims around until you
get near. It then homes in on you quickly. Use Seeker Missiles.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Float Lizard: A Lizard with a helicopter back restraint. Follows you when you
get near. Drops harmless bombs that just bounce you around more than anything.
He falls down and turns into a regular lizard after 1 hit.
Float Sucker: A strange red balloon. Floats around without care. After 1 HIT,
it deflates and falls to the ground. It then suctions itself slowly back and
forth.
2 HITS 200 POINTS
Ghost: A friendly looking ghost. Hovers until you get near. It then charges
and moves down the screen and back up and around. Very annoying, hit them while
they're passive to make your life easier.
2 HITS 300 POINTS
Hatter: A lizard that looks like the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.
Drunkenly walks around until you get near. A mouse shoots hot tea from his
teacup if you get close enough. Duck to avoid its shots.
3 HITS 200 POINTS
Helmut: A walking lizard (Turtle?) in a helmet. Walks back and forth without
care. Jumps at you in Hard Difficulty.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Lab Rat: A giant white rat. Walks back and forth until you get near. Then it
jumps at you.
1 HIT 200 POINTS
Lizard: A yellow lizard. Walks back and forth without care.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Monkey: A brown/orange ape. Walks around when without care. Throws bananas
when you get near.
3 HITS 200 POINTS
Monkey (Variant 2): Same thing as the above. Only it stands still and only
throws bananas.
3 HITS 300 POINTS
Normal Turtle: A Purple/Green Turtle. Walks back and forth without care. The
most interesting enemy of all. It stretches its neck out to bite you when you
get near its head. It's also possible to get it to hide in its shell. If you
time it when it goes back inside and turns around, you can shoot above it and
make it hide. Not really useful, but still interesting. After beating it, it
leaves a shell which you can buttstomp for another 100 POINTS.
1 HIT (+1 Buttstomp) 100 POINTS (+100 Shell)
Raven: A black bird. Hovers in one spot until you get near. It then hovers
near your head and soon moves in for a hit. Use Seeker Missiles to get them when
they're at an annoying angle.
2 HITS 300 POINTS
Skeleton: A creeping skeleton! Moves back and forth without care, loosing bones
as you shoot it.
3 HITS 200 POINTS
Sparks: A electrifying pair of eyes. Don't move when you look at them, but fly
near you when you turn your back. Kind of like the Boos in Mario.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Tough Turtle: A macho looking purple/green turtle. Walks back and forth without
care.
4 HITS 500 POINTS
Tube Turtle: A purple/green turtle on an inner tube. Doesn't move when on land,
but floats around on the surface of water if there is any.
2 HITS 200 POINTS
Witch: The toughest enemy of all! A lizard looking witch on a broomstick. Flies
around and attacks with a Homing Energy Ball. This turns you into a frog. Her
only other way to hurt you is if you run into her.
30 HITS 1000 POINTS
Boss Guide================================================================[0021]
In order of when you meet them and some info on them. During any Boss Fight, a
bar will appear near the top of the screen showing how much health they have
left.
QUEEN: The mother of Eva Earlong won't let you out of the Dungeon, knock her off
the ledge and escape the Dungeon!
Thanks to the Full Energy carrot you'll get before starting this fight, the
Queen is much easier. Shoot the Queen to knock her off the ledge. You can't
jump over her or actually kill her as she is invincible. Her large shield will
bounce off any shots you fire, wait for her to attack. She attacks in two ways,
both of which are the time to fire. She'll use her amazingly loud voice to push
you back. But remember, behind you are spikes! Just run forward to avoid being
pushed off. She'll also stomp and a brick will fall down right on you. Just
move to avoid a collision and you'll be fine. Shoot her during both of her
attacks and she'll slowly move back. Repeat until she falls off and is bounced
up in the ceiling. The only other thing to take note of is a respawning bat.
It respawns indefinitely, but it can hit you when you're not paying attention!
Another Bat Spawns at Hard Difficulty.
POINTS: 0
SCHWARTZENGUARD: The toughest turtle you've ever seen isn't going to let you
leave the castle gardens.
You'll fight this guy without any distractions, so just concentrate on him. He
walks back and forth for a little while and then throws his flail. His throwing
animation is the signal that he's locked onto your current position. Jump or
move out of the way you'll dodge easily enough. Shoot him in-between and he'll
be toast in no time.
His flail moves faster on Medium and MUCH FASTER on Hard.
POINTS: 5000
ROBOT: A tin can of a robot won't let you get near Devan.
The End Episode Boss is the toughest opponent you've faced yet. Devan mocks you
at the beginning and dares you to get past this super bot! Devan himself can't
be hit, but take out his Robot and wipe that smile off his face. There's a
short time at the very beginning were you can get in a few free hits as the bot
hovers down. It's very straightforward. It runs at you wherever you are.
Jump over it and keep on shooting. It stops occasionally when you're near and
a small gun appears over its head. It shoots tiny maces, but just stay far
away and the maces will never touch you. Shoot it until it gives a very nice
explosion.
If you have any problems facing him or need a few seconds to hide, you can
actually get up on the platform above Devan. The Robot can't get you up there.
POINTS: 2000
UTERUS: The most disturbing thing you've ever seen. A floating abomination of
crab and shell.
Haven't had a boss all second episode. This is the End Episode boss. It's very
disturbing to look at. I'm not joking. At first, it's totally invulnerable to
any attack you shoot. It will slowly hover near your position, but move to
avoid getting hit. Shoot the little spike maces orbiting it. They'll fall
to the ground when you shoot them, but soon re-enter orbit. The boss also drops
a Crab here and there. Once all the balls are destroyed, the boss stops
hovering around and tries to simply run into you. It's sort of a wind-up
pattern, but run under it or jump over it at the right pause to dodge. Shoot it
when it opens up to harm it. The scenery is totally flat, so once again there
are no distractions.
There are additional balls orbiting it in Normal and Hard difficulty.
POINTS: 3000
BOLLY: The Redux of the Medivo Boss. A Chain Swinging, Missile Shooting,
One-Eye Robot!
One of the toughest bosses in the game. It can only be harmed by shooting its
eye. It slowly moves around swinging a spike chain below it. Shoot the last
segment of the chain to destroy and work your way up to rid yourself of it. The
fastest way to do this is actually to buttstomp or use your special move. It's
instant destruction on a chain segment. The boss doesn't do much more than
hover around and shoot. There are plenty of platforms to dodge around its
attacks. Its missile attack is fairly dodge able. It stops and shows a shooting
reticle near you. It then shoots missiles at that spot. Just move when it
stops bleeping and you'll easily avoid it. If you have problems getting a good
shot at Bolly, try staying near the ground and let Bolly come down. When he
holds still to shoot missiles at you, get on the windows to the left and get
in a few good hits. With practice, you can get him to hold still in the right
place.
POINTS: 3000
BUBBA/DEVIL: A fat red devil that goes Taz on you if you're not careful!
This Boss has a few attacks. It mainly tries to hurt you by jumping around and
touching you. The ice platforms on the far left and right can collapse, the
rest are solid. He'll often go like Taz, the Tasmanian devil, and turn into a
seething tornado that charges you. It's fast and you simply have to get out the
way when he does it. If you're in front of him he'll sometimes just shoot one
straight going fireball. Shoot him when you can and he'll go down fast enough.
His Tornado Attack moves faster on Harder difficulties.
POINTS: 4000
DEVAN: The nerdy Turtle is ready to take you down!
Devan has two forms. Both of which take a crap load of fire to take down.
There are only two platforms, and they won't help too much. When he first
appears you'll have some free shots as he laughs, don't waste an opportunity!
Devan runs back and forth a lot and very quickly. He'll jump if you stand on
one platform and he's near enough. Also be aware of his gun attack. He'll
shoot quite a few blue fireballs from his gun. Jump on a platform for easiest
avoidance. An important thing to remember is that he can't turn around unless he
hits a wall or jumps, use this to tail him and get in some free shots if you
can. Shoot him constantly until his Health Bar runs out. He'll then turn into...
DEVIL DEVAN: His Final Form!
Devan turns into a winged devil! Like the first one, you have some free hits
while he's changing! He'll take flight and slowly hover near you. This is
fairly easy if you're a good dodger and can time a buttstomp. His only real
way of harming you is simply touching you with his great size. Jump over him
and buttstomp him to safely get over him. Buttstomp makes you invincible so
you can easily avoid damage. His only other attack is breathe a fireball. It
moves diagonally and frankly, unless you're right beneath him, this isn't
going to hit you. Keep hitting him and he'll revert back to his original form.
Congratulations, you beat the last boss!
POINTS: 0
Other Things==============================================================[0022]
This is mainly a list of enemies you won't meet in the game, but are strange
things you can put in the editor. Most are glitched and don't work, but all
are still interesting.
BILSY: The mysterious Devil Magician.
Bilsy is a boss used in the small expansion to Jazz Jackrabbit 2. He is found
in Christmas Chronicles, but he can be used in the editor. Bilsy is easily the
toughest boss hands down. Bilsy appears and disappears across the field. This
makes it a real pain to get near him and shoot. But he has the most deadly
attack in the game. His only attack is to shoot a homing fireball. This
fireball DOES NOT go away easily and is very difficult to dodge. It takes away
TWO of your five hearts. 3 hits and your dead! Ouch! The only to really dodge
his fireballs is to carefully time a buttstomp. This requires VERY GOOD timing.
If you time the buttstomp right, you're invincible for about a second. This is
before doing a buttstomp while in the air. If you do it right, the fireball
will simply dissipate and unharm you. Keep shooting Bilsy to win.
POINTS: 3000
BeeBoy: An actually working enemy. A number of small bees that hover together
and home in on you when near. Like the regular bee, they'll return to their
original spot after a few moments.
1 HIT (per bee) 200 POINTS (per bee)
Bees: An unfinished enemy. There is no sprite for it and it can still hurt you
after you "kill" it.
1 HIT 100 POINTS
Butterfly: Another unfinished enemy. Identical to Bees except it doesn't hurt
you after being killed.
1 HIT 10 POINTS
ROCKET TURTLE: A very glitchy "boss."
It disappears soon after being activated. There are some inner workings to
getting it to "work" but these are difficult to pull off.
POINTS: 2000
Sucker: The sucker form of the Float Sucker. Same thing, except tougher.
4 HITS 100 POINTS
TWEEDLE: A very unfinished boss. More glitchy than Rocket Turtle.
You can't see Tweedle, his sprites aren't properly added, although they exist
somewhere in the game files. He can be killed, but it can cause some strange
things to happen.
POINTS: 2000
================================================================================
08. Goodies and Weapons
================================================================================
Weapons===================================================================[0023]
No action game would be complete without weaponry. Any weapon can be cycled
through by hitting the key assigned to "Select" (Default Enter) or by hitting
any of the keys 1-9, which cycle through your weapons.
Blaster: The Default weapon available to you. A nice weapon all throughout
thanks to it's infinite ammo. Powered up it does 2 Damage.
DAMAGE 1
Bouncer: A small bouncy pellet. It bounces around rather sporadically and can
be difficult to control. Powered up it is slightly smarter and tries to hit
enemies more.
DAMAGE 1
Freezer: A blast of ice freezer. It doesn't do any damage, but it freezes an
enemy in their tracks and allows you to hit them until they defrost. Good for
bosses. Powered up two blasts are shot instead of one. Depending on which
direction you face, they may go in different directions.
DAMAGE N/A
Seeker Missile: An awesome seeking missile. These weapons are known to rock in
multiplayer and even in single player their homing ability makes them deadly.
Especially useful against annoying flying enemies such as Ravens and Dragonflys.
Powered up they do 3 damage.
DAMAGE 2
RF Missile: 2 forward missiles going at slight angles. A powerful weapon with a
strong knock back, but this doesn't hurt you. Each Missile (not both) do 2
damage. Powered up a third missile is added.
DAMAGE 2
Flamethrower: A hot stream of fire from your gun. It has a short range and can
inflict major damage if all of the flame hits. Powered up the flames stay
slightly longer.
DAMAGE 1
TNT: A very strong weapon. It will be placed in midair when "fired" and has a
strong knock back, but this doesn't hurt you. A nearby enemy activates it,
but will discharge after a while. There is supposedly a power up for this
weapon, but it is incomplete and doesn't work. Take note that it can also
destroy ! blocks. Not very useful since it's easier to take out enemies with
normal fire than wait for them. In Multiplayer it is totally useless.
DAMAGE ? (4+)
Pepper Spray: A rather weak weapon. 2 small brown pellets are fired out every
press moving at various speeds. The only advantage to this gun is that it can
be hard to see the pellets in multiplayer. Powered up changes nothing.
DAMAGE 1
Electro Blaster: Another weak weapon. The only things making this different
from the blaster is the shot graphic and the ability for the shots to go through
walls. This is actually less useful than it sounds, considering this option
never shows up in a useful situation. Powered up changes nothing.
DAMAGE 1
POINTS: 100 (For every piece of ammo)
Take note that each piece of ammo you find is worth 3 ammo (i.e. One Bouncer you
find will give you three ammo). Ammo can also be found in 2 types of crates and
a barrel. A Yellowish crate (300 POINTS) can be found that will contain 15 ammo
of whatever weapon is printed on its side. Normal CRATES and BARRELS will drop
random assortments of weapons.
Gems======================================================================[0024]
The generic point makers of the game. Despite what is stated in the manual, you
will not get an extra life if you complete a level with 100 gems. They serve no
other purpose.
Red Gem: The bountiful point makers you find throughout.
POINTS 100
Green Gem: A more valuable gem than the Red Gem. They are worth 5 Red Gems.
POINTS 500
Blue Gem: The most valuable gem. They are worth 10 Red Gems.
POINTS 1000
Purple Gem: A strange gem you can find in a secret level (more on that later).
They are worth 1 normal Red Gem.
POINTS 100
Gem Ring: A rotating, floating ring of gems spinning around. Touch the ring to
gain all the gems inside.
Invisible Gem Stomp: A hard to find rarity in the game. Buttstomp, Sidekick, or
Uppercut on a certain spot and red gems will sprout out. These can be
difficult to find, but are often located between two decorations (i.e. torches,
flowers, plants) or in a slight depression on the ground.
Somewhere like the V in this graphic.
___ ___
\_/
Super Red Gem: A large rotating Red Gem. Shoot it or use a special on it to
break it into several small red gems.
Gems can also be found in BARRELS and CRATES.
Food and Sugar Rushes=====================================================[0025]
Food is very much like Gems in that it's main purpose is simply to give you
points. Food is worth the same amount of points regardless of type. And no
food will contribute more than another in a Sugar Rush i.e.Candy is not > Lemon.
POINTS 50
Sugar Rushes are obtained by collecting every 100 pieces of food. Your
character will become invincible and can instant kill enemies by touch. This
only lasts 20 seconds, but can be useful to gain if you find yourself with
numerous Enemies or harmful obstacles around. The damage being done is
equivalent to buttstomping, so you can also break ! blocks by touching them.
Coins and Bonus Warps=====================================================[0026]
Coins are found in only 2 types and when enough are gathered, you can enter a
bonus warp in each level after finding a Bonus Sign Stand. Bonuses take you to
an area with a ton of Goodies such as Food, Gems, Ammo, or a Powerup. Bonuses
vary in the required amount of coins needed in each level.
Silver Coin: A spinning silver coin with Jazz's head on one side and 2 tails on
the other.
POINTS 500
Gold Coin: A spinning golden coin. Worth 10 Silver Coins.
POINTS 1000
Powerups and Morphs=======================================================[0027]
Fast Fire: Represented by your gun, these will increase the rate of fire certain
guns will fire at if you hold down the fire button. Each one will make your gun
fire faster and are cumulative up until a certain point.
POINTS 200
The only other type of power up in the game is a TV monitor that improves one of
your weapons. They show the weapon that they will power up on the monitor and
they all act the same except for the weapon they power up obviously. They will
also give you 20 ammo of the weapon.
POINTS 1000
Morphs are just that. You activate one and your character changes into something
else. Morphs are not restricted by time. They wear off after passing a certain
point in the level.
Switch: Changes Jazz into Spaz and vice versa.
Bird: Changes your character into a bird. Like the ones that follow you except
you can't shoot.
Frog: The Witch Enemy will change you into this if you get hit by her Magical
Seeking Ball. You can change into this by means of the Editor, but there isn't
a TV screen for this one.
Shields===================================================================[0028]
Shields can be found in TV monitors hidden around the game. Each shield will
last 40 seconds and change your Blaster into a more powerful weapon. Shields
will protect you from harm, but the time they will last goes down 10 seconds
every time you are hurt. So avoiding damage is still a good idea. Also take
note that when you have a shield, your Blaster will fire quickly as if it had
been powered up with many Fast Fires.
Fire: Changes your Blaster shots to damaging balls of fire.
Lightning: Changes your Blaster shots to damaging balls of electricity.
Bubble: Changes your Blaster shots to Bubbles. Less damaging, but they are less
straight.
Laser: The ultimate weapon of destruction. Can only be obtained through the
cheat jjshield. A highly concentrated beam of light that can go through walls
and kill most Bosses in a few hits.
POINTS 1000 (For each TV Monitor)
Stopwatch: A clock that will give you another 10 seconds with the shield if you
have it on.
Carrots===================================================================[0029]
Carrots are the standard Health replinisher of the game. Carrots can be found
throughout the game and mostly exist to restore your Health. Although 2 types
have another function.
Carrot: The standard Heal you'll find throughout the game. Restores 1 Heart.
POINTS 200
Full Carrot: A Carrot that wags around more than a standard Carrot. Fully
heals you back to 5 Hearts.
POINTS 500
Invincibility: A Carrot that pulsates with Halos. Doesn't Heal you, but makes
your character Invincible for a time.
POINTS 500
Fly Carrot: A rare Carrot. Its top leaf rotates around like a Helicopter.
Doesn't heal you, but allows your character to rotate their ears like a
Helicopter and fly around. Disabled after a certain point in the level.
POINTS 300
Take note that all carrots (Except Fly) will also give your character some
Invincibility, this varies among them with Normal Carrots giving you about 2
seconds while Full and Invincibility give you longer times.
Full Carrots and Normal Carrots cannot be used unless you have already taken
1 point of damage or more.
Other Things==============================================================[0030]
1up: Gives you an extra Life. The words 1up with a nice glowing effect around
it, which can help you find them. Some can be found rather easily while others
may take searching to find. They can also be found in BARRELS and CRATES.
POINTS 1000
Bird: A Bird stuck in a cage. A friend found in the original Jazz Jackrabbit.
Shoot the cage to free the bird and have him follow you around. There are 2
varieties of this bird. The normal one is Green and Red and just shoots bullets
when enemies are detected. The second type is a rare Blue and Orange and can
instant kill an enemy by touch. You can only have one Bird following you at a
time. Also worth noting is that if you get hurt with a Bird, you won't loose a
heart, but the Bird will fly off and leave you. They don't follow over to the
next level.
AirBoard: A purple Hover Board. Allows you to fly up and around wherever you
choose. Removed from you after a certain point in the level.
Freeze: An Hourglass that freezes you solid if you touch it. Identical to the
Freezer Weapon. Tap the move keys to get out. You won't find this anywhere in
the game, although it is available in the editor.
Speed Up: A Shoe with wings on it. You won't find this anywhere in the game,
although it is available in the editor. This doesn't seem to have any effect.
================================================================================
09. Objects
================================================================================
This section is basically everything else in the game. It's difficult to
categorize everything seeing as how they have many different uses and no one
thing is alike. I've organized certain things together, but the majority are
difficult to place together.
Blocks====================================================================[0031]
Blocks serve one purpose: to be blown up. The majority aren't too difficult to
figure out, but for the sake of perfection, I've listed them.
Star Block: Destroy these by shooting them once with any weapon.
! (Exclamation) Block: Buttstomp, Upper Cut, Sidekick, or TNT to destroy. They
can also be destroyed by touch if you have a Sugar Rush.
Number Block: Operate the same as a Star Block, but they require a certain
number of hits to destroy and count down as you shoot them.
Key Block: These are indestructible and can only be removed by a Trigger Crate.
Speed Block: Blank blocks. Run into these at full speed to break them. Your
special moves can destroy them almost all of the time.
Ice Block: A solid block of ice. Shoot it with Flamethrower to destroy.
Weapon Block: Destroy these by shooting them once with the weapon shown on the
block.
All Blocks except Key Blocks are worth 50 POINTS.
Pinball===================================================================[0032]
Pinball objects are only found in the Tube Electric levels, but are still worth
mentioning.
500 Bump: Just pushes you in the opposite direction.
Carrot Bump: A Bright red Bump that will make Carrots if you Buttstomp, Upper
Cut, or Sidekick it in the middle.
Flipper: Press Jump when on one to be catapulted up. The closer to the end you
are, the higher you go. Take note that if you hold down jump, you will gain
more height.
Crates and Barrels========================================================[0033]
Normal Crates and Barrels will either hold Ammo, Gems, Carrots, a Bomb, or a
1up.
Crate: A Brown Crates. Destroy it anyway you see fit.
POINTS 100
Barrel: A Green Barrel. Can only be destroyed by a Buttstomp or otherwise.
POINTS 100
Trigger Crate: A special Crate. Doesn't contain anything in it, but when
destroyed, it will remove all Key Blocks. Destroy by Buttstomp or otherwise.
POINTS 250
Springs===================================================================[0034]
Springs bounce you when you touch them. Nothing more to be said.
Red Spring: The Weakest Spring. Doesn't bounce you any higher than you could
if you used your special.
Green Spring: Stronger Variant of the Red Spring. Green Springs can also be
found in certain crates.
Blue Spring: The most powerful Spring in the game.
Frozen Green Spring: Use Flamethrower on this to melt the ice and make it a
normal Green Spring for a certain amount of time.
Spring can also be found on walls and the ceiling and follow the same power
ranking as the above. Take very special note that Springs can also be frozen
with the freezer weapon. This is actually essential to get some goodies which
are blocked by springs.
Other=====================================================================[0035]
Big Box: A Big Box that can be pushed around. Usually used for getting for
a jumping platform to get to high places.
Big Rock: Same as a Big Box except it looks different.
Bomb: You'll find these being dropped by Float Lizards and in some crates. They
don't hurt you as far as I can tell, just knock you back.
Bonus Sign: A Neon Sign and Rabbit. One in every level. Bring it a certain
number of coins to be warped to a small area with goodies.
Boulder: A Large Rock that falls on you and rolls along. Triggered in certain
spots, these hurt you if they're moving, but if they're still, you can stand and
touch them safely. You can also shoot them to slowly move them, but this has no
real point.
Bridge: Bridges come in different varieties, but don't really do anything. They
just look pretty. The way to tell is that they bend under your weight and are
made up of visible segments.
Copter: These are left behind by certain Float Lizards, but sometimes spawn in
certain places. Use them to fly around, but they wear off after a certain time.
CTF Base: Found only in Multiplayer, looks like Devan's Time Machine with Eva
and flag present.
Eva: If you get turned into a frog, Eva can kiss you and turn you back into a
Rabbit.
Exit Sign: Found in almost every level, these just tell you you're near the end.
Hook: Used often for jumping around. You grab onto them by your ears and hang
on.
Pole: Poles are found in many levels and speed you up if you grab them. They
are often in succession and usually catapult you somewhere whether it is up
or across.
Moving Belt: A treadmill like belt that moves a certain way.
Save Point: A Jack-in-the-Box Rabbit. If you die, you start at the most recent
one instead of having to start all the way back at the beginning of a level.
Sign: A sign with scribbling on it. Gives you information or tells you stuff
the Jazz Jackrabbit Team put in there for humor.
Spikes: Spikes are universal throughout the game but come in different shapes.
Spikes on the ceiling and sides however, don't actually hurt you if you touch
them.
Spike Boll: A large spiked mace swinging around. These can be destroyed, but if
you feel cheap destroying them, then just dodge them.
Spike Boll 3D: A Spike mace swinging forward and back. These can't be destroyed
and only hurt you if you touch them in midswing. So if it is closest to the
screen and you touch it, you won't get hurt, but if you touch it while it's at
your characters level, you'll take damage.
Swinging Platform: A platform that swings around on a chain. Comes in different
varieties, but all serve the same purpose. The only one worth noting is the
type with Spikes on the bottom.
Swinging Vine: A green Vine swinging back and forth. Grab it by the end and
jump at its peak swing to move around.
Vine: A thin chain, rope, or vine that you can grab with your ears and move
around on.
Warp: An invisible teleportation warp that teleports you somewhere else. They're
invisible, but they are often hiding in a corner.
================================================================================
10. Multiplayer [0036]
================================================================================
Due to my lack of experience in Internet play, I can't give any wise words of
wisdom to any new players other than don't get hit and don't waste ammo.
Multiplayer or "Party Mode" is the second option available after New Game on the
Main Menu.
You have 4 choices of connection. Splitscreen, Internet Play, and two methods
of internetwork connection. Take note that Internet Play is slightly different
than the other 3 in a few ways. Mainly, Race and Cooperative are unavailable.
Although Capture the Flag works.
After choosing your connection and game type, you can also choose your color,
screenname, character and control device.
Cooperative===============================================================[0037]
Go through the game with other players or play a custom level. Can't be played
in Internet Play. Players can't harm each other and for the most part it's
basically just the game with more players. Take note though that when one player
gets to the end of a level, all players automatically end the level and continue
on.
Battle====================================================================[0038]
A simple Free-For-All where the first person to get a pre-determined number of
"Roasts" wins. Most Weapons do 1 point less damage, and I don't believe it's
possible to do more the 2 points with any one powered up weapon.
Race======================================================================[0039]
Go through a level as fast as possible and beat the opposition to the end,
completing a set number of laps in the process. You can't hurt other players in
the game, although it is possible to freeze them and slow them down.
Treasure Hunt=============================================================[0040]
The first person to collect 100 gems (worth) and find the exit sign wins. Red
Gems are worth 1. Green Gems are worth 5. Blue Gems are worth 10. Although it is
impossible to kill another player, you can hit them to knock some of their gems
off and steal them Just be careful not to get hit yourself.
Capture the Flag==========================================================[0041]
Every player is divided into 2 teams and given a CTF Base. Like most popular
action games of today, the objective is to get the opposing teams flag from
their base and put it in yours. This mode is unfortunately unworkable in
anything other than Internet Play.

11. FAQ [0042]
================================================================================
Q: Where's the secret level?
A: In the next section.
Q: No one seems to be on Multiplayer. What's going on?
A: The official servers for the game have been dead for years now. There are
some fan servers going on right now, but I'll let you decide if you want to mess
around with them.
Q: Where can I get the 1.23 patch?
A: Sites such as Adrenaline Vault (Url: http://www.avault.com/) still have the
ancient patch. If all fails, look it up on Google.
Q: This is game is too hard! Any help?
A: If the game gives you problems, take advantage of a few things. Turn the
difficulty to Easy. Save often. Take your time, there is no penalty for any
of the above.
Q: Is it possible to drown in the Water Level?
A: No.
Q: Do I get any sort of bonus if I beat the game on hard/quickly/with 100%?
A: No.
Q: What's one of the highest highscores you've ever gotten?
A: 1,147,650.
Q: What is the difference between difficulty levels?
A: difficulty levels don't change the game drastically. Mainly add or remove
some enemies or make bosses harder.
Q: There's so much stuff in this game! How will I tell it all apart?
A: Most of the stuff listed is pretty minor and most never make another
appearance outside of one level.
Q: I noticed the game sometimes gets darker/lighter during the game, does this
make any difference?
A: Lighting is in the game for looks only. The only difference it might make is
that it may be harder to see.
Q: Where do you get the names for most of the listings?
A: Editor gives more or less the "official" name for most things.
Q: I'm having problem with ________ on Multiplayer. What do I do?
A: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=multiplayerFaq
Q: Who's better, Jazz or Spaz?
A: Your choice. They only vary in moves. Although through practice I've found
that Spaz does seem able to get to more places than Jazz thanks to the
versitility of his extra jump.
Q: What is Jazz Creation Station?
A: A level editor in the game. Not as advanced as some of the editors in more
modern games, but it's actually rather simple, and with practice you can make
some A+ levels far superior to the ones given in less than 2 days.
Q: I want to make levels! Where should I start?
A: Look at the official levels. Examine what they did and how they did it. You
may come to some surprising results. Try and read the help files, they are
confusing, but they do outline some of the basics. If you need an internet
source, trying looking at this website.
http://howtojcs.zeepost.nl/
Q: I downloaded a level/tileset/music file from the internet, where do I put it?
A: All files normally go into your Jazz Jackrabbit 2 main folder.
Q: Where do I play custom levels?
A: After putting a level file into the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 main folder, go to
HomeCooked Levels in the Episode menu and they should appear there.
Q: What is "The Secret Files"?
A: An Add-On of sorts that was released a long time back. It added another
episode and allowed you to play another character named Lori Jackrabbit, Spaz
and Jazz's sister.
Q: What is "Christmas Chronicles"?
A: Another Add-On. Only gave a Christmas themed episode.
Q: Is there a community for this anymore?
A: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/
Q: You're wrong on ________ in ________. Don't you know ________ is ________?
A: If you notice a mistake or know something I don't, feel free to email me
about it.
Q: This FAQ sucks.
A: That's not a question.
Q: ________ is a much better game!
A: This isn't about ________.
================================================================================
13. Secrets and Miscellaneous
================================================================================
There aren't too many major secrets hidden in Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Here are some
of the major secrets, tricks, glitches, and other oddities you may want to try.
Secret Levels=============================================================[0043]
Gargoyles Lair: Found in the 1st medivo level (5th level of episode 3). To get
to it, find a square block above some 3D Spike Bolls. There should be some Key
Blocks boxing in 2 gold coins and a sign on top of this block. Get to the right
most part of the block and jump as high as you can. Use any special move
necessary to gain height and move to the wall on the right. You'll go through
an invisible wall and find a sign with the words: Secret Level Time!!! You'll
end the level and wind up in the secret one! Take note though, that after
beating the secret level, you'll end up in a loop playing it over and over
again. So save before going in if you value your progress.
Return of Birdland: Another secret level, although I've only gotten to it
through the editor. This level is based off the first secret level in Jazz
Jackrabbit 1. Which was a level in Diamondous in which you turned into a bird!
I've yet to figure out if you can access this normally in the game. It's file
name is Labrat3.j2t. It seems that it was originally meant to be accessible from
the first Labrat level.
Cheats====================================================================[0044]
Cheats can be used anytime during the game. Just type in the words as you would
normally type to access the effect.
jjgod - Become Invincible, get 99 of all ammo and their power ups.
jjinv - Become Invincible.
jjammo - Get 99 of all ammo.
jjguns - Same as the above.
jjshield - Get a shield, repeat to rotate shields.
jjrush - Get a Sugar Rush.
jjfly - Allows you to fly with your ears. Repeat to rotate to Airboard.
jjbird - Get a bird to follow you around.
jjfire - Gives you a FastFire powerup.
jjmorph - Switch between a bird, frog, or character.
jjnowall - Allows you to go through walls. Need to be flying to do this.
jjk - Kill yourself.
jjlight - Sets the lighting to normal.
jjnext - Go to the next level.
jjnxt - Same as the above.
jjcoins - Get 20 coins.
jjgems - Get 10 gems.
jjq - Quit Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and get presented with the Credits.
jjending - Go to the Highscores
Miscellaneous=============================================================[0045]
Team Bounce: Have one friendly player stand on another and have the bottom
player jump to push the top player up.
Disable Water: On the 2nd Beach level (6th level in Episode 2) tap the jump
button to do a jump as soon as the level starts and move over to the right. If
done correctly, when you go through the level, there won't be any water to swim
through! It's still possible to complete the level though. For some reason,
your character can jump at the beginning of every level where you don't "Warp"
in.
Thanks to AquaTiger for telling me that it's possible to do this jump on every
non-warping in level and that it's possible to do with Jazz also.
Insant kill Devil Devan: Fight Devan in his first form normally. When his first
health bar is one or two shots away from empty, do a Buttstomp or other special
on him. This will push him into his second health bar and begin his
transformation. Due to a programming glitch, one hit from your gun will instant
kill him now!
Butt Stomp Bolly: When you fight Bolly, try to buttstomp him from above. Bolly
will progressively move up since you are above him, however, there is an
invisible barrier near the ceiling which gives you some space. If you continue
to buttstomp Bolly again and again in this tiny space, you can easily take him
out. Bolly's missile attack won't likely hit you, and if you are worried, move
slightly to the left or right while buttstomping.
Quick Boss Death with Spaz: Thanks to AquaTiger for telling me this very nice
trick with Spaz. Although restricted to only Schwartzenguard, Bubba, and Robot,
it's quite a quick way to kill them. Get hit once so that Spaz is temporarily
invincible. Stand right where they are and repeatedly Sidekick. You won't go
anywhere, but the invincibilty granted by the Sidekick means you can repeat
again and again, doing massive damage!
Here are some other modes of play famous in other platformers you may attempt
if you want an extra challenge, or are plain suicidal.
Speed Run: Go through in the fastest time possible. I've done the entire game
in less than 30 minutes, although I think it's possible to do it 26 minutes with
Spaz or less.
Pacifist: Go through without killing any enemies. I've managed to pull this
off, but it's insane for any unskilled player. Only do this if you really want
a challenge. Freezers are your best friends.
Low Score: The direct opposite of the game's intentions, go through trying to
get the lowest score possible!
Immortal: Go through without dying once. Very possible to do.
Invincible: How far can you go without getting hit once?
Blaster Only: Go through using only your Blaster, I do this all too often sadly.
No Guns: Go through using only you special moves. Use the blaster to get past
obstacles or bosses that can only be defeated with shots.
