================
1. Introduction:
================
This is my first time writing a FAQ, it's for a game that probably won't
be played by many English-speaking people who don't have proficiency
with Japanese. But I thought I'd write up a few things on the game just
in case:

This FAQ is a work in progress; all descriptions are based on my own
observations during the game. Please email me any errors/corrections
you may have no matter how small, advice on how to improve the layout
would be appreciated as well. Arigatou.

------------------------------------------
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Angel:
------------------------------------------
The storyline as told from the viewpoint of the game, NOT the anime
where the storyline begins with "It is the distant future..."

=The Past: Jikushin (~600 BCE)=
           時空震(クロノ・クウェイク)
----------------------------------
In the days past, our ancestors looked towards the stars and spread the
seeds of humanity throughout the galaxy.
Thus began the Age of Prosperity.
However, this was to be short lived as a mysterious phenomenon known
today as the "Chrono Quake" or "Jikushin" caused a ripple throughout the
galaxy. The impact of this "Jikushin" was so great that entire colonies
fell, their technology lost to us forever. During that time, disaster
fell upon mankind like a plague.
Thus ended the Age of Prosperity.

-The White Moon and the Age of Blessing (~400 BCE)-
     白き月 天恵の時代
---------------------------------------------------
The White Moon appeared above the main star of Transbaal and the Holy
Mother bestowed her blessing upon the people, with this blessing the
Transbaal Empire was formed and the people have new hope. The White
Moon becomes a symbol of worship, The Age of Blessing.

-The Age of Navigation (~300 BCE)-
     大航海の時代
----------------------------------
With the blessing of the Holy Mother, the Transbaal Empire spreads
across the galaxy and enters the Age of Navigation.

=The Present: Lost Technology=
              ロストテクノロジー
------------------------------
It is now the year 412 under the new calendar. Mankind has entered a
new age of prosperity led by the Transbaal Empire.
Thus begins the Age of the Transbaal Empire.
In these times the ancient relics, which have been left behind by the
old civilizations, are now considered sacred objects. They are referred
to today as "Lost Technology".
Shatyarn of White Moon has entrusted five of these relics, the Angel
Frames, to the care of the Angel-Tai.
The Angel Tai are a newly formed group of female pilots whose duty is to
salvage Lost Technology.

-The Future: Shin Transbaal Empire-
-----------------------------------
On the horizon, there is a slight glimmer of metal as gigantic battle
cruisers lumber silently into place in preparation for a surprise attack
on the Transbaal Empire. Within the darkness of space, something
mysterious stirs.
Thus ends the Age of the Transbaal Empire.

And here's what the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has to say on the
topic of Galaxy Angels: "Mostly Harmless".

----------------
Galaxy Angel PC:
----------------
-Galaxy Angel is a game by BROCCOLI that is based on the anime/manga
with the same name. In the game you play the role of Tact (Takuto)
Mayers who has been given command of the Angel-Tai and the duty to
protect Prince Shiva, the last hope for Transbaal, whose royal family
was killed in a coup d'etat by the exiled Prince, Eonia Transbaal.

-The same people who did the voice acting for the anime did the voices
for the main characters in the game, with the exception of Milfeulle,
who is done by Shintani Ryouko (I guess they didn't want Tamura Yukari
doing both Milfie and Ranpha :P).
-Every line of dialogue in this game is voiced, and there's over 15
hours of spoken dialogue (counting all the paths and choice variations).

-The game was released on the 23rd of August 2002; there were 3
different limited editions of the game that were released, a "Regular
Limited Edition", a "Milfeulle Pack", and a "Mint Pack".
-The "Regular Limited Edition" came with 4 game discs + a 5th soundtrack
disc (one CD for each Angel) and a special booklet with color
illustrations of the cast from the game.
-In addition, in the "Milfeulle Pack" and "Mint Pack", there was a
character figurine (which was nearly the same size as the game box
itself), a foil sticker and a t-shirt.
-The "Regular Limited Edition" retailed for 8,800 yen, while the
"Milfeulle Pack" and "Mint Pack" retailed for 12,800 yen.

-The main storyline of the game is divided into 11 Chapters/Episodes,
the battles are done in what looks like Sierra's HomeWorld engine.
Between battles there are times when you are given the chance to move
around the Elsior and interact with the Angel-Tai (sort of like a dating
simulation). The way you treat the Angel-Tai affects their performance
in battle and also how the plot branches during Episode 7.

---------------
Update History:
---------------
13th September 2002
-Added a dictionary, started on the supporting cast, the document now
uses shift-JIS for encoding of Japanese characters.

12th September 2002
-Redid the Table of Contents, corrected and streamlined the Angel Frames
section, added a brief guide to Galaxy Angel, started on the Angel-Tai.

9th September 2002
-Birth of the FAQ, did a brief introduction, started on the Angel Frames
(in game stats will come later.) and walkthrough section for the first
chapter/episode of the game.

4. The Angel Frames:
       紋章機
====================
-The Angel Frames are the vessels of the Angel-Tai, they are apparently
remnants of Lost Technology (though if they're that easy to customize,
how Lost is this Technology? :P)
-The Frames are in essence the same make and model with different
ordnances fitted to the 5 different hardpoints of the Frame.
-The hardpoints are located on the center-underside of the Frame, the
two sides of the Frame's torso, and the last two are located at the
bottom of the Frame (this is where the arms/claw/legs/whathaveyou go).
-The Frames use some sort of Twin Ion Engine propulsion system (read:
TIE :P), which they call the Chrono String Engine.
-There are 2 funny ear-shaped things sticking out of the top of the
Frame, and a funny tail-shaped thing sticking out the rear of the
underside (no wonder the old civilizations bit the dust).

------------------------------------
=Angel Frame ichi-ban - Lucky Star=
                        ラッキースター
------------------------------------
A Frame with its main cannon mounted on its underside and two wing-
shaped objects that house electromagnetic launchers. The Lucky Star is
similar to the Kung-fu Fighter but is slower due to the extra firepower
it carries. It is also equipped with an energy seal to absorb damage.

-Statistics-
------------
Class : Fighter
Length: 49.6 m
Height: 28.0 m
Width : 21.0 m
Color : Pink
Pilot : Milfeulle Sakuraba

-Ordnance-
----------
Center:
 -HYPER CANNON
(SPECIAL, single beam, unlimited range.) "Hyper Cannon! Hasshaaa!"
 -Medium-long range (aqua) laser cannon
Left Torso :
-3x Short-medium range (white) missile launcher
(Only used against fighter class enemies, i.e. Hellhounds.)
Right Torso:
 -Energy Seal (shield)
Wings :
 -2x Medium-range (pink/purple) electromagnetic launcher
(Each launcher fires in salvos of 4)
-2x Short-medium range (yellow) beam gun

-Analysis-
----------
The Lucky Star is meant to be the most balanced of the 5 Frames.
It is the 2nd fastest of the 5 and can easily catch up to any enemy
craft. The launchers can fire at the enemy from behind, which means
that the Lucky Star can attack even while it is preparing for it's next
run. All other weapons are frontal assault.

The main cannon and launchers of the Lucky Star are unable to fire at
close range. The distance at which this happens coincides with the
maximum range of the beam gun, though in some instances both are active
for a brief moment as there is a slight overlap in their range. This is
most noticeable against slow moving targets moving AWAY from the Lucky
Star (Doppler effect). Hence at a certain distance the Lucky Star will
stop using the laser cannon and switch to it's beam guns.
At close range, the Lucky Star has the same offensive potential as the
Kung-fu Fighter. But a single attack run will last longer due to its
slower speed, it'll also take longer to prepare for it's next run.

The Hyper Cannon is the Lucky Star's answer to the R-Type's Beam Weapon,
it fires a gigantic high-energy beam across the map, anything that gets
caught in it gets roasted instantly. With proper positioning it has the
potential to take out an entire fleet of ships. (This isn't likely to
happen as units don't usually line up in a perfect line.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
=Angel Frame ni-ban - Kung-fu Fighter (Everybody was kung-fu fightin')=
                      カンフーファイター
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A Frame that launches a single warhead per run, it relies on beam guns
as it's main weapons. The Kung-fu Fighter is basically a stripped down
version of the Lucky Star, sacrificing payload for speed and
maneuverability.

-Statistics-
------------
Class : Interceptor
Length: 36.1 m
Height: 38.2 m
Width : 19.4 m
Color : Red
Pilot : Ranpha Franboise

-Ordnance-
----------
Center:
 -Long-range (white) warhead launcher
Torso :
-2x Short-medium range (white) missile launcher
(Each launcher fires a salvo of 2, only used against fighter class.)
Claws :
 -2x ANCHOR CLAW
(SPECIAL, single target. Causes the Frame to lag while the claws
    return.)
 -2x Medium-range (yellow) beam gun

-Analysis-
----------
The fastest and most maneuverable of the 5 Frames, it is also the
weakest. If you do a group attack, the Kung-fu Fighter will always
reach the enemy first, it's speed means it gets in more attacks than the
others, as the time between it's runs is lessened. It also means it
will be the first to be targeted by the enemy and the first to take
damage. The plus side is that it is usually able to outrun missiles and
any enemy craft.

The Kung-fu Fighter is good for interception and slowing down the
enemies that are headed towards the Elsior, unless you choose her path
later on though, she will only be useful for harassing the enemy instead
of being a one-woman-army. The Kung-fu Fighter is entirely frontal
assault apart from the torso-mounted missiles, which are only used
against fighter class enemies.

The Anchor Claw is usually enough to decimate a single target, with a
positive modifier to the S gauge, you will be able to use this attack
every 1 or 2 runs. However, it causes the Frame to lag while the claws
return. During this time the Kung-fu Fighter cannot be controlled.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
=Angel Frame san-ban - Trick Master (Telekinetic ability is overhyped)=
                       トリックマスター
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Trick Master relies on its pilot's telekinetic ability to control
the fliers orbiting around it, it's main and only onboard weapon is a
launcher, which fires large warheads at opposing craft.

-Statistics-
------------
Class : Heavy Assault
Length: 36.8 m
Height: 37.6 m
Width : 17.4 m
Color : Light Blue
Pilot : Mint Blancmanche

-Ordnance-
----------
Center:
 -FLIER DANCE (SPECIAL, area effect.)
 -Long-range (white) warhead launcher.
(Launcher fires a salvo of 3.)
Torso :
They look like claws, the joint setup for these parts is highly mobile
(Though they're not used in the game :P)
Legs :
They also have claws on them that makes the Trick Master look like a
bunny-rabbit (it already has the tail and ears), they're probably for
assault, but they're never used in the game. It looks like they can
 expand and retract.
Fliers:
There are 3 of them orbiting the Frame, they fire (light blue)
 medium-long range lasers.

-Analysis-
----------
The Trick Master is a Heavy Assault Frame, it is slow and has trouble
keeping up with the faster enemies. The lasers fired from the fliers do
minute damage compared to the missiles it launches, which are slow and
easy for the faster enemies to avoid. Unless you use it's flier dance
that has an area effect it is only useful for taking out the slower
moving targets or enemies which decide to assault the Trick Master.
The Trick Master looks kind of reminiscent of a Grappler Ship, now all
we need is Melfina. The fliers have a 360-degree range of attack. The
missiles are frontal assault.

The Trick Master's Flier Dance unleashes a salvo of high-speed fliers,
which use high-energy beams to dissect all enemy craft within the area
of effect. It has the most destructive potential as anything that gets
caught in this area has little chance of surviving. The only problem is
the Trick Master usually has trouble catching up with the faster craft
to get within the range where it can be used.

---------------------------------------------------
=Angel Frame yon-ban - Happy Trigger (Bang! Bang!)=
                       ハッピートリガー
---------------------------------------------------
A moving artillery platform, this Frame is obviously piloted by a
Trigger-Happy maniac. A gigantic cannon is mounted on its center hard
point, while scores of missiles are housed in the armature of the Frame.
It is of course, the Frame with the most weapons and offensive power.

-Statistics-
------------
Class : Long Range Artillery
Length: 62.7 m
Height: 33.5 m
Width : 19.2 m
Color : Purple
Pilot : Forte Stollen

-Ordnance-
----------
Center:
 -Long-range (light blue) laser cannon
-2x Medium-long range (purple) electromagnetic cannon
(That's one BIG gun you've got there missy.)
Torso :
Nothing... The entire weight of the frame is in the Frame's lower half
(That this Frame is heavy goes without saying.)
Arms :
-2x Medium-long range (white) missile launcher
(Each launcher fires a salvo of 3.)
-2x Medium range (light blue) electromagnetic launcher
(Each launcher fires in salvos of 6)
 -STRIKE BURST
(SPECIAL, single target, causes the Frame to lag afterwards while
the arms close, AKA 10,000 needles.)

The Happy Trigger is basically a large moving cannon, or set of 3 large
moving cannons (if you want to count the turrets) :P
The Happy Trigger is the slowest and least maneuverable of the 5 Frames.
However, unlike the Trick Master it is usually able to destroy the
enemies before they move out of firing range due to the fact that it's
weapons have a longer range. The main cannons are frontal assault, but
the missile racks mounted on the side can fire from behind. Which means
it can still attack even if the enemy passes the cannon frontal area.

The Happy Trigger's Strike Burst targets a single craft, and unleashes a
barrage of missiles that home in and strike it down. Like the
Kung-fu Fighter, this move causes the Frame to lag and become
uncontrollable by the player during the closure of the armature.

-------------------------------------------------------
=Angel Frame go-ban - Harvester (Command and Conquer?)=
                      ハーベスター
-------------------------------------------------------
The Harvester harvests Tiberium and brings it back to the refinery to
fund your construction of GDI vehicles... Sorry, wrong game.
The Harvester is the only Frame that is asymmetrical in design, its
weapons differ from the other craft and is apparently powered by a
mysterious nanomachine power.

-Statistics-
------------
Class : Support
Length: 40.6 m
Height: 50.4 m
Width : 19.2 m
Color : Lavender
Pilot : Vanilla H

-Ordnance-
----------
Center:
-Nanomachine Pod (used for repairing Angel Frames.)
-NANOMACHINE AURA (SPECIAL, Restores the HP of the Angel-Tai to full.)
Left Torso :
 -Medium range (lavender) laser gun
-Medium-long range high output (yellow) laser device
(Fires in salvos of 6, basically a electromagnetic launcher that
makes a screeching sound when it fires, seems to target better than
the equivalent weapons on the other Frames.)
Right Torso:
 -Large Energy Seal (Shield)
Legs :
 Looks like funny ski sleds.

The Harvester looks like it moves funny while attacking... Is Vanilla on
a nanomachine high? :P
The laser gun can only fire in a frontal assault, while the laser device
has a 360 degree of attack. The Harvester's main role however is to act
as a support unit and repair damaged Angel Frames (not that you usually
need to do this). It's offensive capability is adequate, and because
the bulk of it's weapons aren't frontal, it can attack without even
facing the enemy. Vanilla seems to strafe around the enemy more than
the other pilots, which can be useful at times. As if you overshoot the
target during a run you end up having to catch up to the enemy again.

Vanilla's Special: No comment.

7.Useful Words (romanisations):
===============================
-Moichido (repeat), basically whenever someone asks you a question
(usually a sentence ending with "ka") with moichido in it, they're
asking you if you want to repeat what they just said. Rester ALWAYS
asks this after he gives you the briefing.

-Itai (hurt/pain)

-Suki (like)

-Ai/Aishiteru (love/affection), you won't be hearing this word until
near the end of the game, unless you totally screw up the affection
ratings and be a real bastard to the Angel-Tai. You'll also hear it
from another guy, but not directed at you.

-Ichi, ni, san, yon, go (one, two, three, four, five).
Ban (number/#), ichi-ban = #1, ni-ban = #2.

-Tsubasa (wings).

-Shiroi (white).

-Kuroi (black).

-Wakarimashita (understood)

-Baka (stupid/fool/idiotic)

-Fushigi (strange)

-Tenshi (angel), I don't think they use this word in the game...

-Nani (what)

-Tabemono (eat)

-Sagashite (looking for/searching)

===========================
8. Galaxy Angel Dictionary:
===========================
Note that some of these words and terms are NEVER used in the anime, so
if you haven't read the manga or aren't actually playing the game, you
would never have heard of these before (Actually, some of these aren't
even used in the game either.)

Age of Blessing
天恵の時代
---------------
The historical incident involving the appearance of the White Moon and
the foundation of the Transbaal Imperial Court.

Age of Navigation
大航海の時代
-----------------
Making use of "Gift" from the White Moon, the Transbaal Empire advances
into a new age of exploration.

Angel Frame
紋章機
-----------
Lost Technology, unknown energy system (apparently they operate on the
life force of the Holy Queen of the White Moon). The Angel Frames must
be synchronised to pilots with the ability to control the H.A.L.O.
system, currently these are the 5 that make up the Angel Tai.

Angel Tai
エンジェル隊
----------
A newly formed division of the Transbaal Military Force, currently it
consists of 5 young women (4 if you're starting from episode 1 of the
anime) who have been specially assigned due to their abilities, such as
shopping and cooking :P
See: Priestess/Shrine Maiden of the Moon, Angel Frame.

Blancmanche Financial Group
ブラマンシュ財閥
---------------------------
Run by Mint's dad, it is the single most powerful, and most possibly
corrupt group in the Transbaal Imperial Country.

Chrono Communication
超時空通信
--------------------
Super Spatial-Temporal Communication; A form of communication used
between the neighbouring star systems of Transbaal. How can this be
Remnant of Eden you think...

Chrono Crystal
クロノクリスタル
--------------
A communications medium, the Chrono Crystal is a red jewel that is
attached to the uniform of Imperial officers.
As all things that begin with the word "Chrono" it is a remnant of Eden
(Lost Technology).

Chrono Drive
超時空航法(クロノ・ドライヴ)
------------------------
Super Spatial-Temporal Navigational Drive; The Chrono Drive is the
device used by the Imperial Fleet to navigate vast expanses of space in
a matter of hours by entering what is called "Chrono Space".
By using the Chrono Drive, it is possible to cut a journey of 1 light
year down to 10 hours, and it usually takes just over a day to reach the
Transbaal neighbouring star systems, Criom and Rhome.
While in "Chrono Space", it is dangerous and can prove fatal to come
into contact with interstellar substances during the journey, thus trade
routes between the neighbouring systems of Transbaal have been
established which provide safe passage through gaps in the asteroid
belts and space debris.
The Chrono Drive is a Remnant of Eden.

Chrono Quake
時空震(クロノ・クウェイク)
-----------------------
Quake of time and space; described as the natural disaster that caused
the collapse of the Milky Way system. However the truth behind this
mystery remains unknown to this day.

Chrono Space
超時空間(クロノ・スペース)
-----------------------
Apparently some way of creating a flux around the "Chrono Drive" that
accelerates time hence allowing the vessel to as if on fast-forward.
(Don't ask me how this works without aging the crew of the ship, it just
works somehow cause it's Lost Technology :P)

Chrono String Engine
超時空弦推進機関(クロノ・ストリング・エンジン)
---------------------------------------
Super Spatial-Temporal Chord Propulsion Engine; The Chrono String Engine
is the device used to manouever the Angel Frames, in all respects it
acts as a normal propulsion device with greater output. The Chrono
String Engine and the Frame it propels are both Remnants of Eden.

-MOVIE- Broccoli Logo "Nyo Nyo Nyo Nyo Nyo! Broccoli, Nyo!"

------------------------------------
Prologue - Trouble at Transbaal:
------------------------------------
-MOVIE- An unknown army attacks! Coup de'tat of the Transbaal royal
family by the exiled prince, Eonia Transbaal.

-MOVIE- Opening Movie.

-The Holy Mother Shatyarn narrates the background story.

-------------------------------------
Episode I - How to Greet an Angel:
-------------------------------------
-We join Tact and Rester on board their Destroyer class "Spard" (yeah,
so there's no "L" in Japanese).
The radar has just picked up a large force of hostile ships in the
vicinity plus three additional unidentified ships.

-MOVIE- Three ships moving at high speed, we get a close up of one of
them as they pass by. The words "Galaxy Angel" can be seen on the Frame
of the pink ship.

-Milfeulle, Ranpha, and Forte join Tact and his squadron (it's a very
small squadron, only three ships :P).
You now assume the role of Tact, and greet the angels. Depending on the
way you greet them, their "Kujira" ratings with you will increase or
decrease, you have three options.
 1-1 Milfeulle, Ranpha, Forte +
 1-2 =
 1-3 Milfeulle, Ranpha, Forte -

-The Angels introduce themselves.
"Milfeulle Sakuraba desu, Lucky Star no piloto desu! Sei-ippai ganbare-
masu!"

-Before the battle, Forte asks you if you would like a review of the
tutorial.

Battle 1-1: - The Lonesome Maiden
---------------------------------
Area: Criom

Hostile:
4x "Barmell" cruiser
3x "Spard" destroyer

Angel Wing: (Lucky Star, Kung-fu Fighter, Happy Trigger)
"Haaaaaaaaai! Milfeulle Ikimasu!!!" (AKA: ouch my ears!)
Allied:
2x "Barmell" cruiser
Tact's destroyer (Spard)

Events:
15:00 - Start
13:30 - 1x "Barmell", 1x "Spard" jump in on top-left portion of map
12:40 - 3x "Barmell", 1x "Spard" jump in on top-center portion of map

The first battle, you shouldn't really have any trouble here as you will
win even if you don't touch the controls. It is possible however to
destroy all the initial hostiles before 13:30 thus ending the battle
before more ships jump in. Statistics of this battle aren't recorded,
but losing all your ships will net you with a Game Over screen.
---------------------------------

-Elsior, Trick Master, and Harvester on screen.
Ranpha: "Aoi ho ga san ban ki no Trick Master, Midori no go ban ki no
Harvester yo"

-Mint and Vanilla introduce themselves, you have a choice of three ways
to greet them.
 3/4-1 +
 3/4-2 =
 3/4-3 - (Vanilla: "...")

-Luft greets you in the hangar of the Elsior, you greet Luft back (the
top one is almost always the nicest one). Whatever you do here doesn't
have any effect on the game.

-In Luft's room you discuss the recent actions of Eonia Transbaal.
You are shown a map of the current situation, showing Eonia's army that
is currently occupying Transbaal space, and his sphere of influence.
Criom (where the Elsior is currently hiding, and Rhome are also shown
(Romance of the Three Kingdoms anyone? :P).

-You are given the task of protecting Shiva Ouji/Prince Shiva (no,
sorry. It was Square that got the gender of Shiva wrong).
Luft asks you a question to which you have no choice but to accept, if
you decline 3 times you are pressured into accepting (well, there's no
longer the option to decline :P)
 6-1 Accept
 6-2 Decline

-The door opens, and there is a crashing noise.
-MOVIE- The Angel-Tai introduce themselves to a bewildered Tact and
Rester (Milfie is more interested in the loose thread hanging from her
clothes, and Ranpha accidentally steps on Milfie's foot).

-Depending on how many times you Declined in the last option, the
ratings of different angels will rise.
 0-1 Forte, Ranpha, Vanilla +
 2-3 Milfeulle, Mint +

-The alarm sounds, the party moves to the bridge where you are
introduced to Elmo and Coco
A com link is opened, where the enemy commander declares himself, Tact
pisses him off and he makes this funny grumbling noise, the com link is
closed.
Rester congratulates Tact on how he handled the situation.
After a brief conversation, Mint asks you if you want to view the Angel
Frames, if you choose to do so, each ships pilot will give you a brief
description of their Frame.
7-1 Overview of the Angel Frames
 7-2 Proceed to Briefing

-MOVIE- The Angel-Tai launch from the hangar of the Elsior (this movie
plays every now and then in the later missions, it's not boring like the
ones you get in Colony Wars :P)

Battle 1-2: - Zarf Pudding
--------------------------
Area: Criom

Hostile:
4x "Barmell" cruiser
7x "Spard" destroyer
1x "Zarf" battleship (*Mission Objective*)

Angel Wing:
Elsior (Mothership):
Allied:
2x "Spard" destroyer
1x "Barmell" cruiser

Events:
15:00 - Start

Sticking to the original plan will get you through this battle fine, but
if you leave it like that, you're going to end up losing a destroyer
that's protecting the Elsior. If you want to stop this you should split
your Angel Wing into three groups. Send Ranpha to the right to harass
the enemy while your allied forces move closer to the Elsior. Of
course, there's no penalty for losing allies except they subtract from
your final score.
