Can this game be played on Windows Vista?

Well, I have the full version of Doom 95, I once played it on Windows XP (Via my old laptop) and it launched and worked perfectly. After I bought a new laptop, this time equipped with Vista, the installation came lacking with the dplay.dll, I downloaded said file and put it on its respective folder (C:/Windows/system), after I launched the game, it ended up being black and white, and a very small and stretchy screen. Then I searched through the internet for solutions, and some information claimed that it CAN be played, and the thing to do was to set the compatibility to match windows 95 (DPI disabled, 264 colors, compressed desktop, etc.) But the problem is that I'm new on vista in terms of configuration, so I don't know hot to do that. Is there any solution to this? If there is, please help me out. Thanks in advance :D

Download this: http://zdoom.org/Download
Extract into your Doom folder and run the "zdoom.exe" file. That should guarantee compatibility with Vista.

To change the compatibility in Windows Vista, find your Doom.exe in it's program folder (probably C:\Program Files\Doom) and right click it, then hit properties. One of the tabs is Compatibility, and from there you can change it's settings.

If you can't run it with the previous solution, I'll tell you what I do.

I downloaded a program called DOSBox (version 0.72), it's basically a freeware emulator of DOS, you can mount a folder as a virtual drive, and run it from there. The readme that comes with the program has a more detailed explanation.

You can also download any of the various source ports to run the game. eg. Zdoom or chocolate doom. These will allow you to play Doom with some added features as well.

I reccomend you try zDoom before DosBox, it's easier to set up. Besides, Doom 95 runs pretty slowly in DosBox, though if you have Vista that may not be much of a worry.
