I have Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion and I was wondering what is the best level to Dual Class Imoen into a Mage?

I wanted to dual class Imoen into a Mage, but I wanted to make sure that I did it at the correct level so that I could get all her abilities back before the end of the game. I've heard conflicting reports to dual class when her Thief Level is 6 or 7. I'm not sure which is the proper.

For a full 6 people party level 5 is a good common point. You can dual at 6 but that takes too long and is a pain carrying a crappy mage. If you're only using 2 or 3 NPCs level 6 is okay (I find it unnecessary).
There's no perfect right answer, just be clear in what you're doing with her. You simply won't have enough skill points to do everything. So either make her a lockpicking/trap disarming thief (100 lock picking 90 find/disarm traps) or a scouting/backstabbing thief(hide. I always use her for the former because her low strength isn't great for backstabbing(potions and strength spell notwithstanding) and with 2 of the best NPC's being rangers (minsc and Kivan) you've already got 2 potential scouters.
I don't recommend this but if you're only dualling so she can use bows in the backline you can dual her at level one for a great mage.

All of the above is solid advice except you can't dual her (or any other character) until at least level 2.
