Asked on: 8/15 6:21PMRecently my laptop has stopped running CDs that I put in. The CD-RW drive does not show up on My Computer, and Autoplay doesn't work. I'm using Vista on my laptop right now.

Boot into your BIOS. You'll have to restart the computer, and you should see something like "Press Delete to enter setup" or something along those lines.
It is usually delete or F10. You might be able to consult your computer manufacturer's website for help on how to get into your BIOS setup.
In there, look around for a listing of all your devices. Since every BIOS menu is different, I really can't provide a detailed walkthrough. It should list either your SATA or IDE devices and list something with 'CD-RW" or "DVD-RW" in the name.
If this is listed here, then your drive is still recognized which means it most likely works.
If you can find a Windows CD, try to put that in your CD drive and boot from it. If you don't have a Windows CD, look for Ultimate Boot CD and try to make one from another computer, and see if you can boot from that.
If you can boot from a CD, then your drive works, and the problem lies within Windows.

statusYou either have a problem with the disc drive itself, or your OS. Re-install Windows, and clean your CD's.
If not, buy a new CD Drive.

Sounds like the CD drive died. You'll have to buy a new one.
