Beyond Good & Evil

Review by BAM_its_Ken

"The game you'll never play... and regret not playing once played!"

I will make this short and sweet... those who can make mesmerizing games, make them; those who can't hype it up till it's bled dry. This one is mesmerizing, and it deserved the hype it did not recieve!

Now, Michel Ancel might as well stand next to Miyamoto, cause this is a rare time where I'm actually caring for the story. Usually a game has to make due with it's mechanics instead of its shine. Now this game just rocketed me far away from my comfortable and now soggy seat, and into another world, somewhere I could dream of. Michel Ancel has that flair of imagination of bringing elements together to create something, or more rather, someplace that you only see in foreign postcards.

GRAPHICS-
... now these were not high res, with high-res you can't leave much to the imagination of the gamer/reader/thinker. I loved this, it was perfect, though set in futuristic world of Hyllis, it had this insane and wicked awesome fantasy spin, which made ANYTHING possible. I'll be frank, going around in a boat is much more fun in 'Beyond Good & Evil' than it is in 'Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker'. Do not get me wrong at all. Zelda DOES NOT SUCK, but neither does Beyond Good & Evil. These are images that will stay within my dreams, also creating sweet melodies from the game itself

CONTROLS-
Now these controls were fluid, obviously not perfect, but spot on, I especially loved the...
+++SPOILER+++
reversed controls in the last fight against the Domz Priest, the whole confusion and losing control thing... very adequate!
Going around in the boat and Beluga aircraft were sweet and wicked; if it weren't for the security boundaries set in the game... I wouldn't mind wasting hours away just flying around or even boating, cause those controls were slick!

STORY-
OMG... this story is amazing; the only thing I hate AND love about it... is the ending, it's funny how for a split second I forgot one important part that came up in the beginning, and now it's back in the end, but happening to another subject, it's a perfect tie-in, but with the enemy gone, I'd like to see where Michel Ancel and Sebastien Whats-his-face are going to do with it, and where they will lead it to. I sense a franchise, and one that will rival Rayman even. Except no weird alternate french language spoken by people with floating limbs...

AFTERMATH-
I have butterflies in my stomach... this kept me turning pages, and opening doors. And boy was I said when I saw that infamous jerky-natured words... "The End"! This is a rare game, that everyone should experience. It's not something that will reward you beyond your wildest dreams, this isn't some multi-player game where you can humiliate your friends in, this isn't a long ass game will billions of things to do... it's a perfectly fit game with enough things, though only 10 hours long, it does everything it needs, without missing anything or overkilling anything either. you GET IT, I've already GOT IT, and it's damn GOOD! This is my "The End", until Beyond Good & Evil 2!!!
