"With a title like Dofus..."

… why would anyone expect anything good from this game? When my brothers first suggested I play it, I thought they were crazy! Then they started showing me the basics of the game, and it's actually pretty fun.

There's not much to look at in this game, but what they do they do well. The characters are all unique and colorful. The environment is somehow lacking, but for a pc game, it's really not bad.

Sound: 4
Sound wise, this game is pretty annoying. You can turn down the sounds sure, but the background music is almost like elevator music! You can hear birds in the background, but if I wanted to hear birds I'd go outside. The sound of the farmers cutting crops gets to be almost unbearable, I found myself muting the game and turning on some music often.

Game play: 9
The game itself if pretty enjoyable. You get to do many mini missions, beating enemies along the way. Starting missions are very easy, and you can build up your character however you want. There are many different types of characters you can be and each offers a unique game play experience. Each type of character has different abilities and attacks which make them more interesting. Not to limit you too much, you can also have multiple characters on one account, although there are more character types than there are character slots.

Each of your characters can choose a profession. There are 2 basic types of professions: one being the kind that harvests raw materials, the other being the kind that forms the materials into weapons, armor or other things. A baker cannot make bread without wheat, which the farmers harvest. A bow carver cannot make bows without the wood the lumberjacks cut. Many professions have a fair amount of people specializing in them, so upping your skills is often hard and time wasting.

The starting environment is fairly big, with many different monsters all around them. The monsters drop different items, which you can sell in your shop, or in one of the various market places in town. That being said, you can also buy items from other peoples shops. Sometimes you can find great deals on items for really cheap while other times people overcharge, hoping to get people who don't know the price of the item to pay extra for it.

If the basic free game play doesn't suit your needs, you can become a paying subscriber. Paying members get to explore the entire world, and there are some classes of characters just for paying members. Also, paying members have dungeons as well as items they can obtain, and sell for a lot of kamas, the games currency.

Replay value: 9
At first this game becomes addicting, but after a while it loses its charm. I'm sure subscribing would bring back the magic though. I did play this game for free, for several months and didn't tire of it.
