Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Review by Exodist
"Another Indiana Jones SCUMM game, and another instant classic."
Wow, this game is good. It takes everything that was good from Last Crusade, the humour, good story line, some easy and some hard puzzles, great dialogue, and some really annoying mini-games, and makes them all even better. Apart from the fighting. Although not based on a film, it is a new idea, and it is pretty good, its of Indiana Jones film quality.
Graphics - 9/10
Not too bad, a bit pixeled here and there, but the backgrounds are the best seen on a SCUMM game so far (as in all SCUMM games before it) and the characters are decent too. You can see the pixels a lot though, but it doesn't really bother. The special effects are OK, and the animation is good, but some of it is a bit dodgey here and there.
Sound - 9/10
As soon as you start the game, after LUCAS ARTS logo goes away, you get the classic Indiana Jones theme! It's pretty well done, and all the music is too. Its all different though, well, the quality is a lot better then past SCUMM games simply because it uses iMUSE, which is their own little music thing, and thus the music is better then previous SCUMM games.
Gameplay - 10/10
Generally, the gameplay is great for Fate of Atlantis. You go around many different locations, doing some puzzles, getting some stuff whilst searching for Atlantis. There are also three different game paths, meaning there are three different ways to get to Atlantis itself. Personally, I have done all three, but its best to make a save before you choose the path, and as soon as you get to Atlantis, do another one. As soon as you get to Atlantis, its all the same. The puzzles are easy, but some are hard, especially if you choose the Wits path. The fighting isn't very good though. It's really annoying, and is more or less the same as Last Crusade fighting. Luckily, when there's a hard Nazi to beat, theres a way out, like dropping a giant rock on his head or making a statue crush him. The game is fun to play, its long, funny, not too hard but not too easy.
Overall - 10/10
Simply, another classic SCUMM game. It's a good job none of them are crap, Lucas Arts are just too good at making good games. Well done Hal, you have made a killer game, and didn't give Indiana Jones a bad name! SCUMM and adventure game fans should get this, Indiana Jones fans too. Its much better then Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis: The Action game, trust me on that.
