Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45
Review by GrimSneaker
"$20 Game that should have been $5."
Ok, first off don't let the pretty graphics on the box fool you, or the review score that Steam (the people that sponsor its online play) fool you either, this IMO is a waste of time and money.
First off lets talk about movement in-game. Imagine yourself out in a field. Now imagine you have lead boots, but you've been given adrenaline shots to give you energy. Now imagine you're doing this while running through a giant field full of mud mixed with super fast drying glue, thats how movement is.
Second, weapons. You have no crosshairs on screen, so forget aiming. You do however have an "Iron sight", which is originally keyed to the "I" key. So if you're a normal FPS player who uses "W,A,S,D" keys to move, then this is a pain. Left mouse button fires, and then right button fires secondary, which is still undeclared, (and a MAJOR pain for snipers).
Oh yes, sniping. If you're using the sniper rifle (which comes in a couple selections), then you can fire, then press the fire button again just to reload a new bullet (for the rifles with bolt action). This is also a pain, even if it does give "realism". Even then when you're not firing, accuracy seems random at best most times.
I'll end this hate rant with the vehicles. The tanks, once used properly, can be deadly. But if you're on foot, against say the bots in single player (which is so nicely named practice), then fighting a tank is pretty sad. There is a rifle that has armor piercing rounds used for tanks, but it takes about 4-6 shots to take out a tank, and then you must press "R" to reload another bullet, which is 5 seconds, leaving you immobile. And yes, the bots are godlike in tanks and can see through pretty much walls, and will take you out before you can reload the 3rd shot most times.
So all in all, this game tries to deliver realism for old WW action. I didn't even attempt multiplayer, but seeing as how lame single player was, I figured screw it. You can go and buy it if you wish, but in this review, its a horrible game that should have been in the $5 bin at Walmart.
