Doom
Review by Raddish_Forever
"Legend"
Doom was produced by iD Software more than ten years ago now. It paved the way for every first person shooter that has been sense released. Doom is still an epic, heart pounding thriller. The game take's you through four massive episodes that are sure to keep you playing until the next dawn.
Story: The UAC (Union Aerospace Corp.) has developed new machines that can teleport humans to and from alternate worlds and dimensions. Upon landing on Mars, the team performed a deep investigation of an area and opened the gates of hell. You play as a lone surviving Space Marine that must send all of the dammed back to the underworld. The story is very dark and gloomy and still feel's good and spooky after all these years. (8)
Gameplay: Doom is a 3D shooter (A.k.a First Person Shooter). The game sends the player through four hell ridden episodes. The first is the initial landing on Demios and then you move onto the Shores of hell, once there, you must travel into the depths of hell itself. The game is full of twisted creatures that we have all come to know and love. The undead walk, horned demons lurk and some of the most disfigured beast await you to send them back into the infernos of the darkness. You'll be doing all your extermination using a select few specialized tools. These handy objects are all you need, from a Pistol to a Chainsaw right up to and including a Missile launcher. Lets not forget the fan favorite BFG! The game has all of these slick details and items and it all forms one giant demon spawned quest, which will grow on you as time progresses. The game controls are tight and feels good. One more thing that has made doom so amazingly popular is its epic boss fights. The cyber demon is well known as the greatest boss of all time. He's seen rather often in later doom games. And while these entire things await you in a single play through, throw on an extra four difficulty levels. The game is just so damn fun, and has loads of replay value. (10)
Visuals: Doom has been popular due to its creative design and innovation. The demons are made from 2D sprites, and they all look unique. The game's level design is also amazing and is used a building block even nowadays. The game is just amazing on every level. The gore in Doom is just something else, I mean it's pretty sweet! You'll see limbs on rope, people impaled on a stake, violently shaking and badly bleeding...Its so gory, but that's doom. Even when you kill a monster its awesome. Kill a mancubas, it will tear apart into a pile of bones, guts and organs. Its so cool to watch them all happen. The weapons seem kinda grainy but they all move in fluid animation (like the Chaingun barrels rotating) and I love it all, it's fantastic! The Sound is good. The demons moan and groan and the tunes are rather catchy (for a game at least). (10)
This is a classic. A legend. A modern art masterpiece in the gaming world. Take it by the horns, and don't let go, this is a ride to remember!
