Snoopy vs. the Red Baron

Review by EdvidSword

"A Beautifully Done Dogfighting Game"

Snoopy VS The Red Baron is a great dogfighting game from Namco Bandai.
Taking place inside Snoopy's newly written World War I novel, players take control of Flying Ace Snoopy as he heads out on his Sopwith Camel with his friends to help the Allies win the war against the Red Baron and his forces.

The story is nothing special, however, it is a pretty good story, and it does a good job of tying together the many stages in the game. The story has more depth than the average dogfighting game, and it is very much like a Peanuts story, keeping in the humour and some of the themes from Peanuts.

The gameplay is pretty good for a dogfighting game. Flying the Sopwith Camel is fairly easy, and the weapons are easy to use. For weapons, there's the generic machine gun of course, but the special weapons, such as the 10 Gauge Pumpkin and the Woodstock Missile, keep the gameplay interesting and intense. Also, the game offers many primary and secondary objectives in each level, giving the game more depth and a bit more open-ended. There are also different modes of battle when in the story mode, giving the game a bit of variety. Also, the environment is big enough to explore and give the feel of a real dogfight, but small enough so that things are kept intense. The difficulty isn't too hard, but definitely not easy, and the learning curve isn't very steep and the difficulty increases at a reasonable rate.

The graphics are done beautifully in this game. The game presents the Peanuts characters in a 3D world. The Peanuts characters are integrated nicely into 3D characters, keeping their classic looks with beautiful 3D detail added to them. The environment found in the game looks beautiful and are very smooth.

The soundtrack is composed nicely, though nothing special, it doesn't get repetitive, and sets up the atmosphere of the game nicely.

Overall, the game is pretty good, and with characters to unlock and a dogfighting mode, this game will interest many for a long time. This game will not only make Peanuts fans happy, it will also satisfy many dogfighting gamers out there.
