Football Mogul 2007

"Hardly Even a Game"
Football Mogul 2007 is a slightly underground simulation of NFL football where the player must take control and be the GM of a team. You can make trades, draft prospects, sign free agents and play games all en route to a super bowl. The idea is great, but limited options makes this game get boring really fast.
You start by picking any team you want and start right up. . You can choose to have the game randomly shuffle players around, do a fantasy draft or just keep current rosters. After that however, things get very mundane. You can't pick your coaching staff, which in a game this hands-on you should be able to. There is no pre-season in this game what-so-ever, which is forgivable but its odd it is not there.
You can play games, but there is a limited number of plays you can run, and passing works way too well and running does not work at all. You pick a play and the game runs it for you, and you see what happens. Some work needs to be made here but its not that bad. There is only a few bugs and a lot of rule errors. An incidental face mask is a 5 yard penalty and a repeat of down in this game, whereas in real football its 5 yards from the end of the play and that is it. The 2 minute warning is screwed up, and clock management is impossible. Players always go out of bounds inside 2 minutes, even on passes over the middle.
The players ratings are just awful Bears backup quarterback Brian Griese is rated a 90 overall, and 49ers star running back Frank Gore is a 72 (and Aaron Rodgers is a 64.) There is no Mario Williams or Reggie Bush (I believe there are only 7 of the top 15 picks from 2006.) There are plenty of other flaws which should have been fixed by this game's December release that were not. Players ratings also fluctuate a lot which is frustrating. Sometimes a player as high as an 82 can go down to as low as 63 after just a few games.
The draft is good, you draft a player at a certain rating and it usually changes. The presentation is decent also. You can't trade picks during the draft, which makes no sense to me because the developers would have to make little or no effort at all to make that possible.
Sure, some fun is to be had here, but its just not much of a game. Baseball Mogul by the same developer is a much better choice overall, and a much better experience.
