Half-Life 2: Episode One

Review by gameanamic

"Everything Half-Lifeish none of it episode oneish!!!"

HL2-1 is a great game, that's all that really needs to be said.... Not the best but very, very..... very good..... very. If you have never played a half-life game (like me) this game is still worth it. You play this game and get hooked on the rest..... That simple. But be warned you'll need a fairly powerful machine to play this game. The game is also too short, like 3-7 hours short

Graphics:
The graphics are superb.... everything you SHOULD expect from a HL game. They're crisp, clean, and pixels? Yeah right!!! The graphics is one of the best parts of this game. It even has a certain style to it.... you won't see it right away.... but it is there. And a good style indeed.

Sound/Voices:
The sound and music fits right in the game perfectly. It gives you that ol' HL vibe... The voices aren't forced at all (Which you've come to know.... and hopefully love). The actors are great for the roll. There aren't any problems there. The only actually problem is that all CPU's sound alike (good guys)
Baddies don't really talk....

Game play:
Controls are complicated enough to keep you interested, but not enough to find them hard. If you don't like first person shooters... you will probably still find this game fun enough to buy. It's a lot of a puzzle game also. The puzzels aren't really that hard, but still a lot of fun! You'll also find a bit of horror in there too. (The baddies of course) Theres not much to it, just F....U....N!!!
If you're into storyline you'll find this game has a lot of it. If you're not.... well just bear in there and wait for the game.

Online play:
Yes there's online play! And yes get high-speed internet if not.... well you'll be sitting....waiting for a very long time. There are a lot of people who play. Don't worry about playing alone. You'll have fight to get in a server. (or at least a good one) The game includes Steam; thats the engine the online play runs on; Half-Life 2: Death Match, and Half Life Death Math: Source. No one really plays HLDM: Source.... You will probably only find 2 servers as in HL2DM you'll find about 600. There are many levels to choose from. Everyday I find a new level. Theres Team DM, DM, and CoOp.
