Bookworm Deluxe
Review by the_reborn_soul
"Bookworm owns my mothers soul"
I can't remember when my family first came upon Bookworm. I think it was one of those online deals. But from the start, we've been complete addicts. So, when I found Bookworm Deluxe in the "bargains" section of my local Walmart, I immediately got it to Mom, who immediately bought it.
It now owns the soul of my mother.
GRAPHICS: 10/10
There's not much that can bring this one down. I mean, you have a bunch of letter tiles, occasional special tiles, and a giant talking bookworm (a literal big, green worm), so it almost automatically gets a 10 for getting what little is has right.
SOUND/MUSIC: 8/10
As is always the case, you'll eventually get tired of the music. However, the sound is very good. Of course, there's not much sound, but your bookworm friend (Lex) occasionally says something, and I really wasn't expecting it.
GAMEPLAY: 9/10
Your purpose is to make words with the given blocks while keeping red blocks from getting to the bottom of the screen. As you get to higher levels, more red blocks appear. That's all. It's more difficult than it sounds really. There are also bonus words and tiles that add to the score....endless fun. The only problem? You can't use names. I once lost a game because it didn't recognize "Canada" as a word.
STORYLINE: N/A
You're trying to keep red blocks from hitting the bottom. There is no storyline. If you want a story, play Bookworm Adventures Deluxe.
REPLAYABILITY: 10/10
Though you will probably get bored eventually, Bookworm has kept my mother occupied for about 7 months now, and I can still have fun on it. It's a plot-less puzzle game anyway, so it's all about replayability. The biggest goal in this game is to beat the highest score and keeping the spot from your slobbering family members.
All in all, Bookworm is one of my favorite puzzle games ever. Not many teens I know would like it (being the type that hate to even read or spell the word "the"), but if you are not a close relative of the monkey, you might want to try it out.
