King's Quest II: Romancing The Throne

Review by MisterMarioMan

"An improvement over the original....."

The Original King's Quest was a pretty decent game. It featured challenging puzzles, beautiful landscapes, and what would soon become everyones favorite adventure hero, King Graham. After that games success, a sequel was sure to follow. This time, Graham is off to find a wife so he may have an heir and not befall the same fate as his predecessor. It took what made the first game so good and expanded on it.

GAMEPLAY:8/10
The old AGI game system is very simple. You move around, you type what is is you wish to do. Even though it's not very complex, it's one of the best play systems I've ever played.

STORYLINE:6/10
A Problem with most sierra adventures is the storyline. King Graham goes in search of his future bride, Valanice. After that, thats virtually it until the end. They don't tell you who to talk to, what to look for, or even where to start off. I gave it one bonus point for the very cool intro movie.

CHARACTERS:7/10
Just like the last game, there are so few characters and they aren't really expanded on. They've added a few more this time, though. You have King Graham, who's in search of a bride so he may make an heir, His Bride, the future Queen Valanice, Hagatha, the witch who locked Valanice in the Quartz Tower and several other friends and foes you'll meet on you're journey. They aren't expanded on much, but it is a pretty colorful roster, and are definitely much more advanced then in the original game.

GRAPHICS:8/10
The old AGI graphics are simply put, beautiful. The way the pixels blend together to make a perfect scene is remarkable. This time around, they were a lot more detailed then in Kings Quest.

SOUND:7/10
Although there were few notes, they really made it sound impressive. The little beeps and blips really come together for the games (few) Sounds. Plus, the return of the death theme from the first game made me smile.

OVERALL:7/10
This is one of the better entries in the AGI Game Franchise, if you ask me. It is a great game, and you should definitely play it (You can buy it in "King's Quest Collection".) I honestly think that it's better than the first, and possibly better than the third.
