Space Quest II: Chapter II - Vohaul's Revenge
Review by MisterMarioMan
"A Nice Addition to the Series."
Space Quest was one of my favorite games. In it, you play Roger Wilco, a space janitor who must stop the Sariens from destroying his home planet. It was an incredible adventure, with action, humour, and the lovable buffoon, Roger.
Later, Space Quest II was released. Is it true to the original?
GAME PLAY:10/10
I love the AGI Engine. You move around with the arrow keys and type with the keyboard. It's not too complicated, and you can easily do everything that you wanna do. Although it's a very basic engine, it truly is a great one.
STORY:9/10
Roger, having saved the planet in the last game, and been enjoying his fame. Everyone cheered wherever he went. However, as everything does, the fad passed, and Roger was back to his old life. When he is asked one day to clean a ship, two guys inside kidnap him. When he wakes up, Sludge Vohaul sends him to his Labion Labor Mines for many hours of hard work. He doesn't send him before unveiling his new plan, though: He's going to send door-to-door salesmen all over the world. On the way the the mines, the guards machine crashes, killing the guards but somehow miraculously saving Roger. Now Roger must find a way to Vohaul and take him down. It is a great storyline and very funny as well.
CHARACTERS:8/10
You have Roger, the same Janitor who, now that his fame from saving the world in the last thing is long gone, has gone back to doing what he does best: Being a Janitor. There's also Sludge Vohaul, the true mastermind behind the first game, who wants Roger gone for good when he tries his next plan to take over the world. You'll meet others along the way too. These characters are great and the context between them is often funny, which I really enjoyed.
GRAPHICS:9/10
Once again, with only sixteen colors Sierra makes a game seem beautiful. For the time, it was some of the best graphics around, and even now it looks very nice. Every scene is well drawn, and everything in them seem detailed and quite good looking, which I really loved.
SOUND:9/10
It's just the same old classic sierra sounds. Just a bunch of beeps and blips. Not that it's a bad thing, as you don't even have to hook up speakers to play it, thanks to internal speaker sound.
OVERALL:9/10
Yes, Space Quest II is a great game. Faithful to the original, yet it has enough new content to make me want to play it. I truly did enjoy this game, and it's gotta be one of my favorites.
