Space Quest: Chapter I - The Sarien Encounter

"A Great Beginning to a Great Series."

Space Quest: My personal favorite adventure game series. Its got humour, action, and the most lovable protagonist ever - Roger Wilco. The Series is one of the greats, and it began with this game.

GAME PLAY:10/10
The classic AGI engine is still one of the best. Walk around with the arrow keys, type on the keyboard what you wanna do. Its very simple to understand yet you can easily do whatever you want to.

STORY:9/10
While On The Arcada, a Space Station, Sariens attack. They'll kill everyone except you, because you were asleep in a janitors closet. They stole the Star Generator, a machine capable of destroying a planet, from the Arcada. Now you have to escape the evil beasts, find their home base, defeat them, and destroy the star generator. While this story is pretty basic to us now, this was very unique when this game came out, and thats what I based the score upon.

CHARACTERS:9/10
You have Roger Wilco - A space janitor with the dumbest luck in the universe. No matter what the situation, he'll find a way out of it. There's also the Sariens, evil space aliens that want to take over the world, and many other characters you'll meet on your adventure. These characters are not only likable, but are also quite varied, making for a great cast list.

GRAPHICS:8/10
The way that 16 little colors can connect to make beautiful landscapes is well beyond me. This game looks great for having such few colors, and I could easily make out every detail.

SOUND:8/10
The little beeps and blips are quite magnificent, if I do say so myself. The way they blend to create great noises such as the theme we now recognize as the Space Quest theme is incredible. I really did enjoy the sounds this game made.

OVERALL:9/10
This is just great game. Although it is short, the Graphics and Sounds are really great, and the characters in the story are simply awesome. This is one of the best games made with the AGI engine, one of the best games created by Sierra, and one of the best games I've ever played.
