Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Review by NoiseLess66

"Immense Shooter With Few Flaws"

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare provides players with a solid single player experience as well as a great multi-player experience. Maybe one of the first game where raw reaction time can be beaten by well thought out tactics. So let's start the review.

Sound: 10/10

Lets start off by reviewing the games sound. The background music is really well constructed. It has a tendency to really set the tone for warfare. The weapon sounds and game play sounds are superb on medium and high settings. It really gets you into the fight. I would have to say there are no flaws in the sound area.

Game play / Story Line: 9/10

Single player has an epic story line that would satisfy any gamer. The ease of the controls are a plus too. The layout isn't to scattered and doesn't need much tuning at all. Multi-player is great as well. I have put a good 50 hours into it and still can not put it down. You have 55 ranks and a lot of achievements to fill which grant bonuses for each completion. You also get a very wide variety of perks, which can be customized to any players liking or style. Now as much as you will think to your self, "Great, people with higher levels have a better advantage then newbies." It isn't entirely true . That game doesn't have an almighty gun. All the guns have pros and cons. For example, the MP5, which you get at the start, is a great gun! Within one sitting you should be able to get a few mods for it and start mowing down pros and other newbies alike. The only flaw that I would say is the Barrett sniper rifle. Being able to run and fire off rounds with it isn't possible.

Graphics: 10/10
Immensely jaw dropping. While you clearly need a good system to run it, when it's maxed, the game provides an almost "real" feel to it. Depth of field, specular lighting (which in my opinion is superior to phong shading) as well as the shadows are note worthy.

Repeatability: 8/10

Here is where it drops. As diverse as the multi-player is, offering classes and in depth improvements to each gun via mods and perks, once you beat the game and reach level 55. There is little room for replaying the game. Unless you factor in the difficulty levels for single player.

Overall: 9/10

With few flaws this game is a must have! The online game play is diverse enough for many first person shooter addicts to fall in love with and keep playing. For single player lovers. Call of Duties short but immense story line is sure to thrill you, maybe even make you shed a tear.
