Review by Silencer-X
"Definately one of my top ten."
Silver is by far, one of the best games I have ever played.
Silver didn't have very much hype and a lot of magazines that reviewed it said that it was not very good compared to such games as FF7 and 8. I was a bit skeptical at first too considering that the makers called this game the FF7 killer.
I saw it on one of my PCGamer disks and said, ''What the heck, it can't be that bad.'' In the following 10 minutes, I was thouroughly addicted and went out to buy the full game.
Now to the Review
Graphics: 9/10
Silver has some of the best 2D backgrounds I have ever seen.
The city of Rain is probably one of the most beutiful sections of the game, especially when a lightning strike happens in the background and all of the street is lit up.
Every screen of the game is just stunning to say the least.
The characters on the other hand are 3D and are just a bit clunky. They aren't very detailed and the textures on them aren't good. But, that's ok, you don't get close to them very often anyways. The special effects such as magic is very well done. Its cool to see your opponents destroyed by a massive meteor shower from above(in which all who are caught in it are instantly gibbed).
Sound: 10/10
Silver's sound is really well done. The music sounds as if it was done by a real life orchestra. Believe me, it's that good. In Silver, music adds a lot. Most of the game, has a
mysterious and somewhat gloomy theme to it, making you think that theres a monster around every corner. But this all drastically changes when you find a boss. The gloomy music dies down and an adventurous song starts up making you want to beat the crap out of anything in site.
The voices in the game are really well done also. Spiral House took great need in chosing who to be the voices of the characters since all the talking is through voices and not text.
Control: 8/10
Silver sports an interface that is very easy to learn. The pie menu is activated by simply right clicking and choosing a section to mess with. Each button to a section is labled well, with foods having a picture of various foods on it and weapons being where the cleanched fist is. Fighting is perhaps one of the best and worst parts of this game. The start out, the best is that when fighting, you can do diffrent slashes according to how you move you mouse. For example, if you move you mouse right and click, your character will swipe right. If you move it left and click your character will swipe left. It's very simple and fun. Now to the bad part. This comes when you control multiple units in your group(this only comes in after a while so don't panic). Let's say that I want David(your main character) to fight this group of thugs approaching me from the other side of the street. Well, I assume that my archer Sekune, will fight along my side and protect me. Well, I charge into the mass, swinging my swords and Sekune begins firing her arrows into the crowd. After only killing one or two, Sekune runs out of arrows and just stands there. The thugs by now are tired of beating me up and decide to try killing her. Well, they approach her postition, she does nothing. They even pound their weapons into her, and she just sits there like a moron, not even defending herself.
As you can see, the game has a bad flaw. But, after playing
this game for a while, I decided to start using magic instead of arrows. Well, now my magic user doesn't run out of ammuniction so quickly and also recharges! Another great thing to this is that they defend themselves! So, this flaw isn't too major as long as you have a good magic user.
Challenge: 7/10
Unfortunately, Silver is an easy game. I went thourgh the entire game in less than a week. But, don't think that this game is bad now, because it isn't. Believe me, even though it is fairly easy, it will keep you excited throughout the entire game.
Replay Value: 8/10
Because Silver is an RPG, I thought at first that it might have almost no replay value. Even though you play through the entire game once and there is no difficulty settings, it is still very fun to play again and again even though you'll know how to beat all the bosses and everything. The bosses themselves are worth playing again just because some are actually hard, but unfortunately there is no option available to warp to any boss you want and fight him again.
Satisfaction: 10/10
Silver, even though short and easy, is just plain awesome. At the end when you finally beat the game, it will give you an awesome feeling of accomplishment. When I finished this game, it gave me a feeling that this game was just plain awesome and that it was definately one of the best games I had ever played.
Right now you can find Silver for about 10 bucks, and believe me, it's worth way more.
