Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Review by Doodleheimer

"Another great Lucasarts adventure"

Game Play-9/10

This puzzle-solving system, taken from Lucasarts' Monkey Island games, is not exactly original, but it sure is fun. The three different paths in Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis provide a lot of replay and addiction. The huge variety of items is more than enough. Dude, I could barely handle that. This game, however, is worse than Monkey Island in a few ways. For instance, you can die in this game. And there is very little humor in Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis. But, Lucasarts took a little time to sneak some unfunny jokes into this game's dialogue. They just tried too hard with the humor. This game has a few good features, though. The thing with the three worldstones and how you have to unlock certain areas with them is great. And the different places and variations you must visit in each path are great too. But, you have an easier time playing this game the second time; I mean playing this game a second time on a different path. A lot of the same puzzles, or at least different variants of them, are in a couple of the paths though. Another thing that is unique though is that you visit the same place in different paths, but you pick up different items in each path. And there are some places you visit in two paths, but not in the other path. And there are even minigames. Like the minigame where you have to crash your car into the Nazi's car, fly a balloon onto a German sub. You do that to rescue a person. But, nonetheless, this game is all Indy. Same Indy style, same Indy attitude, just a different way of playing Indy. This game rules. You also fight with other people.

Graphics-9/10

The graphics in Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis were better than the graphics in The Secret of Monkey Island. If you look really carefully, you can see the Lucasarts Logo in the background in the Labyrinth. The characters and items are very detailed too. The Nazi's are detailed, especially in the fight scenes. The overhead views, the maps, and pretty much everything else is pretty detailed. But it seems like everything in this game has a weird distinction, I cannot shake off that feeling. Weird, huh. I do however like the rich details in this game.

Replay-9/10

Sorry, I never could get the sound or voice to work on my computer. Whenever I turned on the speaker, there was a LOUD screech. Oh man, that sound was so annoying. The controls in the Setup Screen were terrible too. Oh well, that should not ruin this wonderful gaming adventure. The three different paths you can take in Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis are great. The puzzles are mind-boggling. And I like that in a Lucasarts adventure game. Some of the puzzles in this game are extremely frustrating, but when you finally do solve that puzzle, it is worth the struggle.

Overall 9/10

This game is a good find at Lucasarts' website. This game was released eight years ago, so chances are slim you will ever see this game in a store ever again. The rich detail, the variety of items, and the Monkey Island-like game play will keep you happy for a while. But, for some reason I get stomachaches when I play this game. I still play it, though. The game is very addicting. You will not be bored with this game. I loved it to death.
