Star Wars: Force Commander
Review by VHunterD
"Camera Control reminds me of drunk driving....."
This game is odd, annoying, and, if you play it for a while, we'll make you want to jump up and down, not with joy, but with hatred on top of the box. The game itself isn't that bad. But as an Avid and innocent fan of West Wood and Blizzard games picked this up along with a microphone at Best Buy. One thing I must say to ANY Real-Time-Strategy fans....Wait for Emperor of Dune in 2001/2002. Don't buy this, the camera angles make you sick (literally) the controls are bulky, unresponsive, and give you the feeling that either your not all there behind the controls or LA was sniffing something when they designed the camera. On to the review.
Game play 7/10: The game play was cool. Except fro the horrible camera, the stuff was dope. You could zoom in and watch the action like the real movie. Problem, The graphics and animation was as bad or worse then the '79 flick. Only the best computers could alleviate slowdowns even when you met the requirements.Command points were a proverbial butt-head. I'd baby-sit a harvester any day compared to those. And God-D*** it the units still did the single file thing, when you order more then three units to a area, they all walked single file through wide fields.... and the units would move to little green markers, all nice and rowed so they could easily be picked off by the enemy...
Graphics 5/10: This isn't before Bill Gates got his billions. Dark Forces had better graphics then this. I've played Super NES and Sega games with better graphics. Even if its 3d, this is not worth the 30$ I paid and the 60$ everyone else did. I need to get my N64 back from that friend.....
Story 3/10: Actually, pretty inventive and nice, if it was more evident. But you really didn't get much. LA should of given West Wood and/or Blizzard rights to make the game. Because they could really make them and they still do.
Replay-ability 2/10: When you finally beat this, even with multi-player, you'd want to shelf this PoS along with the others you dislike. Let the dust collect for years, when computers that can flawlessly run this game are no longer only owned by NORAD and NATO.
Overall: Kind of a nice idea, screwed up by lazy ass-holes trying to cash in on Star Wars yet again. I hope Bill Gates Deep Sixes LA one of these days... its getting old...
