Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Review by Patriko2000
"Another great addition to the Monkey Island series."
Like I've said numerous times in my other Monkey Island FAQ's and reviews, I am a big fan of the Monkey Island series. I especially like the older games. The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge are two of my favorites. Though graphics may not be visually stunning, they do get the point across, and they are an improvement over the first one.
Graphics - 7/10
Okay, okay. The graphics aren't the best part of this game, but they do come up to par for the time that this game first arrived on the scene. The improvements over the first Monkey Island are numerous, mainly the pixels in this game being a lot smaller than the first one (which is a good thing). I give it a seven out of ten.
Story - 9/10
This story fits into the Monkey Island series quite nicely. It starts off with the infamous Guybrush Threepwood telling his pirate buds of his adventures in the previous game with the evil Zombie Pirate LeChuck, only he doesn't know his adventures aren't over. This game follows the same basic plotline, which can be a good and a bad thing. The ending to the game has a surprising twist as well, which I won't reveal (for spoiler's sake).
Sound - 5/10
Ahh back to the midi's. It seems that with this game, LucasArts is keeping the same trend as the first game, using only system based sound effects and music. While this is pretty bad at times (okay, most times), it does stick with Monkey Island tradition, and this, as I stated before, is a very good thing.
Gameplay - 10/10
This is one of the best parts of this game. I love the way this wanna-be RPG style game uses it's simple point and click style controls. They are so easy to learn, and to master, that this game can be played by virtually everyone. Kudos LucasArts, you've got a winner.
Replayability - 8/10
I must admit, right after you beat the game - you don't want to start playing it from the beginning right away. However, once you take a break from it (and forget about it for a while), you will get the urge to pick up the cd (or disks) and pop them in the computer to play again. I can't explain it, but there is just something that keeps on drawing ya back to good ol' Guybrush Threepwood. This game is definitely a buyer (Just try to find some place to rent it :p).
Final Thoughts: Keep those Monkey Island games pumpin' LucasArts, it's a good idea, and a good series. Please don't stop ;).
