Star Trek: Starship Creator
Review by Mr Knowitall
"In terms of fun factor, I'd rather play pong"
This game is somewhat interesting, but no where near as fun as Pong is, and I am dead serious.
STORY What story?
CHALLENGE Hmmm... the challenge of managing your money to build a starship... none what so ever. But then again, some of the missions are pretty hard, meaning you need to optimize your ship, but remember, I said some.
GAMEPLAY The game is generally about you making a starship. Period. But if you are a Startrek fan, you'll see how fun it is to make the ultimate Starship. But you'll also see how fun it is to uninstall a game that sucks. Well, anyways, you have to choose from seven different classes of vessels, Intrepid, Defiant, Sovereign, Galaxy, Miranda, Excelsior, and Constitution. Each one has it's ups and downs, you'll have to figure that out yourself :-) Next, you'll have to pick out some more components, ranging form engines, to power sources, to weapons and defenses. Next, you have to pick out your crew. you have sixty people, give or take a few, to fill in eight positions, but only some are qualified for some positions. You crew compliments are selected from the original Startrek, to the more recent Startrek: Voyager. You also have to pick out the proportions of security to command, etc. On top of all that, you get to name your vessel. Next, are the missions. Although you may think that they require no skill at all, some of them actually have requirements, ranging from a skilled crew to a working weapons system. There are events that come up, but you can just [Alt] + [Tab] out of it until you think it will be done.
GRAPHICS You'll remember them from your old 16 bit videogames. That's right, this has the graphics of a SNES or Genesis.
SOUND There is none. The sound effects are just plain annoying, though. So put on your favorite MP3.
CONTROL Point and click. Even with a faulty mouse, you wouldn't notice much difference from a good mouse.
REPLAYABILITY None what so ever. Once you beat all the missions, you'll be wondering how you ever completed all of them!
This game may have been better has there been Borg Cubes, or Spheres, perhaps a Klingon Bird of Prey, or a Romulan Warbird. Maybe if the game had that new Prometheus class vessel...
So please, do yourselves a favor and stay away from this game. Stay far away.
