Planescape: Torment

Review by Verenti

"Does this Game Realise the power it might hold? No."

Starting of to say, Okay, I've heard rave reviews for this game and Its the only one I'm missing (Infinity Engine and all), so I rented it to see if it deserves the press, and I'm saddened to say, It does not, OMHO, It fall short of all the other infinity engine games, for it lacks two things Freedom and length.

Graphics - 6

Althought the graphics were done really well, the whole city scape with its constant mounuments made it really hard to figure out where you were and where you were going, and when you hit a dead end, Maybe if there was a thing like in Throne of Bhaal where you press tab... Plus the locked Resolution was a bad bad too. I did like the flowing motion of the fight scenes.

Sound - 8

I thought the sound was really well done, but when you look at the actors you kinda wondering if Warner Bros. was funding this game, but the Harlots constantly shouting ''Cool your heels over here, Cutter'' and stuff like that would of made it better if they accually had sound clips... and more variance. Oh yeah, Morte's cool.

Gameplay - 5

Major mistake with the interface... Don't mess with a good thing, how they set it up it made you feel like P:T was a beginner's RPG. It's somthing unexplainable, it feels like this game is out of tune.

Plot - 8

This game is good for plot, thats about all its good for it's dialouge, If it was just alittle tweaked here and there, then it'd play like a first class rpg but it feels like they spent more money on the actors than the programming, Damn good plot, I wouldn't say better that Baulder's Gate but it is STRONGER the BG because the characters are all intercaitly woven and nothing you can do can change that... Its almost like your watching a movie or reading a book, and have little influence on fate.

Overview

- It lacked the freedom of the Great games Baudlers Gate (1), Fallout 2 (but not Fallout 1) and Arcanum, these games instead of pointing out your path, they suggest possible paths, As I've said to those around me, ''It is more fun to write your own legacy then to read a legacy written for you''

- This game felt huriedly assembled, like it was just like a side story rather than an epic tale... It wasn't very exciting, and I had to buy several cases of pop just to finish this game

This game wasn't anything ground breaking, Period.
If you want a REALLY great game, Try Baulder's Gate, Fallout 2 or Arcanum, or if you want somthing alittle more Linear, Baulder's Gate 2, Icewind Dale or Fallout 1 (I've been told its good, but the pressing need to constantly get watter making the game more of matinance than of saving the wastelands)but I wouldn't buy P:T unless you haven't played any other Black Isle game (or Sierra's Arcanum), Or you're like me and need it to finnish your collection
