Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

Review by BCleaver

"A refreshing new look for Diablo II in LOD."

Possibly one of the most successful roleplay games, Diablo II offers so much more than previously with its expansion Lord of Destruction. There are great additions which makes this game a must for all fans. These are as follows:

* A whole new act complete with 6 new quests. The rewards for these quests include any item being socketed, recieving access to the new barbarian hireling, and personalizing any item of your choice

* The 800x600 resolution gives the Diablo II experience a whole new perspective. Extremely sharp graphics and increased line of sight aids every player.

* Hundreds of new items, including new set, elite unique and rare items which all include there own personal attributes.

* Craftable items and runewords to place into various socketed equipment.

* Character only items, such as one handed orbs for sorceresses and fanged helms for barbarians.

* Two new characters, the assassin and druid. Each have their own skills which include the shadow master of the assassin and the metamorphis of the druid.

* Easier to get experience than the original, and finding rares seems to have become a bit more common than before.

* Your stash is doubled in size, this is extremely important as you tend to run out of space very quickly on classic Diablo II.

* The hirelings can be equipped by you, and can be healed with potions. The new barbarians available are very popular within the game on act 5.

Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are very good with the new 800x600 resolution. The detail in some of the backgrounds are astonishing when explored. And all the monsters are more detailed than ever on this new resolution.

Gameplay: 10/10
Blizzard have always offered good gameplay, and this expansion is no exception. Your hunger for unique and set items will make doing the bosses over and over again seem worthwhile. If you actually follow the story instead of jumping the acts then it is much more enjoyable.

Sound: 9.5/10
The music in the game sets the scene for the 5 acts, and the voices of the characters whilst they speak really gives it the cutting edge. Communicating with all the characters and hearing the bosses curses of 'My brothers will destroy you~ Mephisto' and 'Not even death can stop me~ Diablo' makes it even more fun.

Value for Money: 9/10
Great value for money, you can get this reasonably cheap and will last you a long time, basicaly you can play each character through the game 3 times in normal, nightmare and hell. If you times that by the 7 characters then you have a long and enjoyable lifeline of playing. It depends on who you play with, as finishing the quests can always be a different experience.

A truly great game which will keep you playing for hours, I recommend it for any player who enjoys any genre of computer games.
