King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human

Review by Tyler_

"Who cares about Graphics?!"

Whenever I think of King's Quest, I imagine the days when games were cheap-graphic and yet fun games. The kind of games you laugh at when your character falls off a cliff, unlike other games where you cuss out the monitor. These games were not only funny, but challenging in many ways. This particular King's Quest, King's Quest 3, is one of my favorites, after 2 and 4, and I will review each of its features accurately.

1. Graphics- Hahahahahaha! Why am I reviewing such a poor subject you ask? Because the graphics were wonderful! Sure they were 1980 graphics, to where you couldn't make out a person from a lamp, but they were FUNNY!!! I love cheap-graphic games soley because they are so funny to watch. Plus it would be unfair to compare this game's graphics to a game of 2001, because that is a lot of changes over the years, and more technology. I rate the graphics a 10/10, but for those of you who can't stand cheap graphics, this score will be reduced 9 most likely...

2. Sound- HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The cheapest factor of these games! I love it! The sounds sound so annoying, ugly and cheap it isn't even funny! I can see why they left the music out! The sound was so bad, I rate it a 3/10. I understand that the technology wasn't around at that time to make an orchestrated adventure, but hey, they could have saved us the agony by not even putting it in, but that's King's Quest for you! Annoying Beeps and computer freak-outs...

3. Story- The story is where you are Gwidion (I believe that's his name, I kind of forget), and you are a servant of a Wizard, Manannan, that lives on the top of a mountain, and you find out from an oracle, when you sneak out of the house while Mannanan is away, that you are really a Prince named Alexander, and you were kidnapped as a child. You want to escape and find your parents, and end up turning Mannanan into a cat, while fiddeling with magic in Mannanan's secret lab under his study. You then find your parents. I don't want to give any more away, but all I can say is it has a great storyline.

4. Characters- The many characters in King's Quest 3 were all very comical, and funny characters. They had key roles in the game, but not much were to them. They didn't have much of a backround, and they weren't in it too long. The characters I would have to rate a 7/10.

5. Gameplay- The game was fun, and tough. It was one of those typing games, in which you type the actions you want your character to perform. You move your character with the Directional pad. Very basic. The only problem is when you type in a command, sometimes you have to rephrase it if the computer doesn't understand what you mean. This can be VERY aggrivating, but the results are a great feeling of accomplishment. I rate gameplay a 9/10, because it was simple, and understandable for its time, yet even today is still a challenging game.

6. Ending- The ending was hilarious! I don't want to give it away, so I'll just rate it a 10/10, because I am unsure it can possibly be better.

7. Overall- Overall the game was fun, and it was funny, yet was also cool. I reccomend this game for people who can figure things out easily, because it is hard. Also for those who like Sierra games, or RPGs.
