Civilization III

Review by Incantium

"Very addictive strategy game."

First of all, I'd just like to say that I have no idea what all of you people that gave this game low ratings are complaining about. Civilization III has added many new concepts to the Civilization series, and yet has kept the same feeling as the previous titles in this series.
If you are familiar with the interface, etc., from the previous Civilization games, this game is especially easy to learn and understand. And, even if you are new to the Civilization series, this game is not overly complicated and is easily grasped by those intelligent enough to play strategy games against an AI.

Graphics (9/10): The graphics on this game are improved even more from Civilization II. Of course, the graphics cannot be too in depth and still leave room to build on an entire planet, so you are bound to have the far overhead view, which is not a problem in the least.

Music/Sound (10/10): What I found really cool about this game was the fact that the music changes depending on what age your civilization is in. (eg. classical music in the modern era). The music is not the most important aspect in a game, but the music of Civilization in a way helps to enhance gameplay, even though it just plays in the background.

Gameplay (10/10): The gameplay of Civ III is great. This game is not for those lacking in strategic competence. The AI is very advanced, and I found the game challenging, but easy to get through when a little strategy is applied. There have been many improvements since Civilization II, but enough is the same so that those who have played the series before still know their way around.

Replayability (10/10): Civilization III is different every time you play it. Whether you change the world, the opposing civilizations, the winning conditions, or the rules entirely, Civ III makes for an interesting time every new game. The replayability value is very high and this game keeps you coming back for more.

Overall I found Civilization III to be a very compelling and addictive game, with a strong interface, challenging AI, and even good graphics for the Civilization series. I would definately suggest buying this game, whether a Civilization veteran or a newcomer to the series. Just my two cents.
