Planescape: Torment
Review by The FalloutFreek
"One of the best Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Games EVER!!!"
Sure, Baldurs Gate was cool, with lots of ADnD Elements. And sure, Diablo I and II had its hordes and hordes of freakishly deformed and gory monsters. But with Planescape: Torment, you get the best of both worlds! This game was developed by Black Isle Studios, which has spawned out some of the greatest Role Playing Games ever.
Gameplay: Torment a very fun game to play. It has 3 things: Great Story, Great Controls, and a Talking Skull with more wise cracks than Groucho Marx! What more could you want?
Gameplay Score: 10
Controls: Torment has a nearly flawless interface in which you can modify your party's marching order, the formation in which you travel, and it has some really cool character portraits, hehe. The travel and battle system is simple enough, basic point and click. A real plus however, is the ''Quick Menu'' Option, in which you right click anywhere on the screen and a small menu pops up, allowing you to perform most of the major actions in the game (i.e. Attack, Talk, Look at Inventory, etc.).
Control Score: 10
Graphics: This is a biggie. While not completely flawless, the graphics in this game are pretty well done. All of the character models, NPCs (Non Player Characters) and PCs (Player Characters) alike are both extremely detailed. The backgrounds, OH the backgrounds. The pre rendered backgrounds are so nice to look at and make you feel like you are really in the middle of all the action, from the middle of a thug infested street to the undead-riddled hallways and corridors of the Mortuary, the backgrounds are simply breathtaking.
Graphics Score: 9
Audio Quality: The Sound in this game rules, it has an eerie vibe that sounds really cool but really freaky at the same time. An excellent soundtrack, nuff said. Now onto the voice overs. The voice overs in this game are done by some of the best actors I have ever seen...erm...heard. They sound like you are watching a movie, and I hope the actors were paid well for their job in this movie...erm...game.
Audio Score: 8
Story Line: This game has one of the best story lines I have ever seen in a game before. You play The Nameless One, who wakes up on a slab in a big building called the Mortuary in the city of Sigil, and cannot remember a thing that happened to him. Along with the first friend to join you, Morte the Talking Skull, The Nameless One embarks on a quest to find his past, and meets some interesting characters on the way, as well.
Story Line Score: 10
Replay Value: This game has an extremely high replay value for this reason: The game is completely non-linear, which means, you can either remain a fighter like you started as, or you can become one of three other classes, as well! You can join one of many awesome factions, and depending on what you join different people will like and dislike you, and heck, some might even try to kill you on sight! Speaking of killing, you can either be the Patron Saint of Helpfulness or you could become that cold-blooded murderer that everyone talks about, it all depends on your actions!
Replay Value: 10
Overall this game gets a 10, because minus a bug here or their, and minus a few sound and graphic glitches, this game is nearly flawless, I hope that any Advanced Dungeons and Dragons fans or RPG fans in general will take some time to look this game up and try it for a bit, I guarantee they will like it.
