Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
Review by vabus
"Not bad...For an oldie"
Warcraft II was a game made from blizzard. It's successor Warcraft I was a hit in it's time. I first played Warcraft I and II in 97. Now that I played it for about 5 years already i'm ready to write a review about Warcraft II.
Gameplay(7/10)
Warcraft II is an early RTS game and that a good thing. Even though it's one of the first it's still fun to play.
Your basically a captain of a army of humans or orcs.(it's your choice) Therefore you have to train for your troops and expand your army by making more solders and eventually upgrading some of them to stronger things. But to do this you have to mine gold, chop lumber and collect oil. In Warcraft II you are able to do campaign mode for either humans or orcs. In addition you may also do regular games where your only mission is to destroy all your enemies. Also if you get bored of this you can create your own map and play it in the map editor. Blizzard has also made this game internet compatible allowing you to play multiplayer games over the net.
Story(9/10)
The story varies depending which race your playing on. If you are humans your goal is to defend the lands of Azeroth from the evil vistors the orcs. Also to close the great portal so no other orcs would come back. Though if you are playing as a orc your goal is to kill all humans in Azeroth so your race would be the rulers of that place.
Graphics(7/10)
The graphics on Warcraft II are pretty junk though I also have to remember the fact that this game was made in 1995 so then this excuses the crappy graphics. One good thing I do like in the games are that they make many cut scenes. This shows off the mediocore graphics making them look slightly better.
Sound(6/10)
The sounds for Warcraft II are also very stale. Though the music played during the game makes up for it. Though the music doesn't really make you feel like your in a real war or anything close to that.
Replayability(8/10)
This game is worth playing again if you wanted to because it would still fun to play. Also with all the extra game features why wouldn't you want to play the game again especially if you only saw the ending for one of the races.
Buy Or Rent?
I suggest that you rent the game because this game is very old and if you wanted a better RTS like Warcraft II and at the same price you sould buy a little game called starcraft.
Or another thing you could do is wait for Warcraft III to come out.
