Diablo

Review by Black Star

"A fissure into the depths of Hell and a drunken rambler in the same town? That makes for good travel opportunities."

Diablo(n.) - In Spanish, a term for demon, or devil. In the gaming world, the hideous red demon that's tormented the dreams of the people of Tristram.

And now for the review:

Graphics: 8/10 - You gotta love the Gothic style of everything in this town. The church, the houses, everything has a late Medieval tone to it that adds the charm that keeps this game strong and replayable. The only thing that really bugs me is that no matter what sword and helm you're using, the weight of the armor you wear determines how you look.

Sound: 11/10 - The music is the best reason to play this game. I could listen to the theme of Tristram for hours, over and over again. Not to mention the groans when you cut off the head of an Unseen. =) And all the people actually TALK!

Gameplay control 'n' that: 7/10 - I wish fighting were a little more involved, and movements weren't so robotic. It was pretty much just point, click, point, click, walk in perfectly straight lines.

Story: A bajillion - This story really rules. Not for younger ages. Unless you like to pull the wings off of flies and glue them to your teeth so they shine funny.

Blood Factor: *Puke*/10 - This game is so gory for it's time that you'd think some of the developers were having problems at the time.

Duping, lamer, and moron factor(Multiplayer): 12/10 - If you wanna be a legit player, don't ask anyone for anything. It probably had its origins in someone else's hands, and is probably still there.

Replay Value: 9/10 - If you play Diablo II after you play this, you'll come running back after a few weeks.
Why would I say this? Diablo II just plain blew. I mean, it was great, at least for a while, but then you realize: This game is not Diablo. This game is... this game is just a bundle of shiny graphics and a cool storyline. But it's just not the same Diablo I played so long ago.

If you played D2 before playing this, you're going to scoff at it. Knowing so many people who have (all of my friends, actually) said ''jee diablo 1 sux the graphix sux and it is borign y do u play it u dork'' it's been proven scientific evidence that everyone's too proud to ''lower their standards'' to play an oldie like D1. But trust me: It's way better. It's a lot shorter, but way better.

Cool Stuff:
Using a trainer during one of my many experiments with the game(I know, I know. I've scarred myself for life. *Sob, sob.*) and selecting the ''Activate all spells'' tab, I at once noticed several spells that it was not possible to recieve in the normal game. Such as the ''Ethereal'' spell(which makes a reapperance in D2X, but not as a spell, as an item stat) which creates a floating ring over your head. It was obviously disabled for some reason and has no effect now, but it's fun to confuse people with it. ''What's that thing over your head?'' ''Top secret spell.'' ''Oooo.''
