King's Quest: Mask of Eternity
Review by Cyberkaratekid
"Hark! This Game Tis Great"
If you like puzzles, fighting or the rest of the kings quest games this game is for you.
STORY-8/10
Connor starts out in Daventry (his home) Out of no where a hurricane type storm comes and covers the sky in darkness. You sees the king in the castle looking at his magic mirror and a man destroying the Mask Of Eternity with his magic in the mirror. The Pieces are scattered around the world and one happens to land right in front of Connor. As soon as he picks the piece of mask up Connor's friend who you are talking to turns to stone! Through out the game he travel to different realms using portals and your magic map, you meet many different characters, fight monsters and solve puzzles.
GAMEPLAY-9/10
This is a great game with lots of different styles of games fused together. It may take a long time to get the hang of solving the puzzles but once you get the idea it is a breeze. The controls are easy to understand. There is point and click attacking, picking up things, using items and interacting with other characters. Arrow keys and keyboard to walk, jump, switch weapons and change from walking to running. Throughout the game you get stronger armour, longer ranged crossbows, throwing hammers and bow and arrows, and swords, axes and pikes that do greater damage each time you switch them. The only thing I don't like about this is between realms you need to wait for the computer to remove old files and add new ones(about 5-10 min between realms)
SOUND-9/10
The music in this game is switched up for each realm, you start with an eerie haunting track in the Daventry to a happy ringing track in the Ice Realm. There is a wide variety of great music through out the game. The voices are easy to hear and understand. The downside of the voices is the Old English accent. One thing Connor says that really annoys me is ''I cannot pick that up, TIS beyond my reach'' and ''HARK what foul being brought this tempest among us?''
GRAPHICS-7/10
The graphics are really the only thing bad about the game. They are a bad attempt at 3D. Connor and most of the creatures he meets are ok but they are blockish sometimes. When you are walking through the water and some splashes up you can see the triangles of water in the air. The feature that is good about this game is that you can switch the resolution and special effects like shadows and details on creatures, so Kings Quest can run on slower and older computers.
REPLAYABILITY-6/10
You could play Kings Quest again but the game takes a very long time to get through and most people wouldn't want to play it again. If you do there is a score at the end of the game that you could try to increase and you can change the difficulty of the monsters from easy to hard.
RENT OR BUY
Definitly a buy. If you rented it there would be no time to play it right through and you wouldn't want to take it back. The game is great and it is a Buy for sure.
Total 8/10 Hope you love this game like I did!
