Quest For Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero

Review by Star Wyvern

"An All Time Classic Game"

This game is definitely an all time classic, right up there with the King's Quest series and the Space Quest series, all made by Sierra. While I never played this game until Sierra released their awesome Quest for Glory anthology shortly before the release of Quest for Glory 5, It is still an awesome game.

Sound I can't really comment on the sound, considering there isn't any!! It might just be my computer, but there is never any sound when I play this game.

Plot A classic plot for a classic game. You are a man who wants to be a hero (hence the sub-title of the game). To prove you are a hero, you must do many things. You must rescue the Baron's daughter who has gone missing, You must some how defeat the evil Baba Yaga, sorceress extrodinaire, and you must rescue the Baron's Son (The Baron doesn't have any luck with kids). If you succeed in those three tasks, then you will be a hero.

Gameplay This game has some awesome features. When fighting, you actually fight the enemies. Press up to thrust, left to dodge left, right to dodge right, and down to parry. You can also choose from three different classes in the beginning of the game, Fighter, Magic User, of Thief. Each character has different stats so it helps to pick the one that best suits you. My personal favorite is the Thief, because if you choose him, you can join the thieves guild and steal from people's houses at night! Also, you have Stat points, ranging from Strength to Vitality to Magic to Pick Locks. All of these can be increased by doing the appropriate things. Pick Locks can be upped by picking your nose (It's true!!) and Throwing can be increased by (Duh) throwing stuff!!

Conclusion All in all, I give this game an 8. It is a great experience and a game that every one should play, but it is a bit non-linear, meaning it is often hard to figure out where to go next. I would buy this game if I were you, or better yet, buy the Quest for Glory Anthology, featuring Quest for Glory 1 through 4. Also, a little side note, you can import your character from QfG 1 into QfG 2 and so on! This game Is a true masterpiece.
