Might and Magic IX

Review by Crassus

"A game worthy of the M&M title."

To be frank, when i first played this game i thought that it would be the same as all the other might and magic games but with better graphics.Once i played it for a little while longer i realized that it was much better than the previous versions.Well, you start out with no money,no items,to explore the world. But you end up having some big kind of quest in order to save the world.A classic rpg storyline if i may say so.But let us analize this game a little deeper, shall we?

Gameplay:9.5
I believe this is the game's strongest point. It has a new game engine(in my opinion better from the other m&m games)that offers you extensive gameplay,a HUGE world to explore, adequate difficulty and the eagerness of becoming stronger and stronger,to beat even the most ferocious of your enemies. There are dozens of quests for you to accomplish, and a lot of treasure for you to gather. The new skill system is also very promising. The only backdrop to all of this is that in times, the game get's very complex.

Graphics:8.5
Not the best graphics you will encounter, but detailed to some point and appealing to the eye.I believe that most of you will be pleased with them. There is use of all the new graphic techniques(like trilinear buffering)if your graphic card supports them. What dissapointed me most, were the npc's.They all looked almost the same in a point that was somewhat annoying. And also a little something for you m&m veterans. The graphics that were displayed when you entered a shop etc in previous m&m games are now the same as they are in the rest of the game, without any special animations. Also, the inventory doesn't display your character
with his real image(M&M8),but with an annoying looking doll.

Sound:7
Same as in all the other m&m series with few a exceptions. For instance, music is always playing during the game(something that was not happening in the previous games),and there is a slight improvement in the sound quality with the implementation of the eax engine. Also, npc dialogs have been improved, removing all that annoying repeats that were in the previous versions of the game.

Value:8
A classic rpg game worthy of the MIGHT&MAGIC title. It will keep you occupied for a LOT of hours. But i am warning you,and take my word into this.Don't expect to finish this game in less than 50 hours. If you are a might and magic fan,you will love this game.If you are new to this game, give it a little more time and i am sure you will love it.
