"Grade A Plastic"
Army Men was always an action game. Well, until now. This new Army Men game called Army Men: Real Time Strategy is really a change from the classic green plastic heroes that we all know and love. But can this game achieve fame and success? We shall see...
Graphics - 8/10
The graphics side of Army Men RTS is something special. When you look at the polygons of units shown in the Loading screen, you must say: boy, there aren't any place for details. Well, the texture on those polygons are truly realistic. Green plastic skin, tanny structure sides, etc. The map itself is pretty nice, detailed. And the zoom function can help you look in depth the graphics this game have to offer. Of course, it's no movie, but I say it's definitely more than average.
Music - 9/10
When you first play the game, the music may appeal childish. But as you continue on, you will notice that this accompaniment is superb. They set the atmosphere in the game, and they stimulate you (really) to play more. Kind of fun and addictive...
Sounds and Speech - 10/10
Wow! I simply adore the speech section. You have a drill sergeant on one hand and a pussy cat on the other. How do you tell the difference? By listening what they have to say. The tons are variable, and the characteristics of the speeches are totally realistic. This is one side of the game that you must witness.
Story line - 8/10
Okay, I have to admit, the story line is only so so. You'll find out that this one is not so deep. However, each mission has a special something that makes it comical. It shouldn't de-stimulate you, I think.
AI - 6/10
This is the only crappy aspect of the game. When you finish the campaign, most of you will say: gee, that was easy. No, nothing is wrong with you, the AI is primitive. For example, when you advance into a battle with a lure (a unit that is weak, really weak), every enemy jumps on him. They don't take the time to think that the other units can totally destroy them.
Replay Value - 8/10
After you finish the Campaign, you might want to retry it. Maybe you have missed Secondary Objectives, or want to play it in another skill level, or just want replay it for fun. The Great Battles also features the same kind of replay value. And with 20-some units, you might be bored sometime, sometime (soon). The only downside of this is that there aren't any skirmish. You don't get to set the map, set the units, set the opponent and play. Oh well.
Overview - 8/10
So is it worth it? I say this game is worth it, but it's up to you to decide. If you want to try it out, go to ArmyMen.com to find the demo. Try it, give yourself a good laugh, and if you still like it, buy it.
