Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
Review by Up in Smoke 2001
"A fans dreams in one game.....The meaning of life"
To start with, if you are Monty Python fan read no further. Run out and buy this game (if you can find it) right now. For all of you who have never seen a Monty Python (MP) game, movie, CD, etc... Now’s the time to strike.
This game contains a whole lot of sound files and clips from previous MP movies, and the graphics far succeed the previous games: Holy Grail and Complete waste of time.
It is spanned over two discs full of fun and mayhem.
The game ranges from the hopelessly easy to the impeccably hard, but fortunately there are a number of references to MP material previously released to help the MP fans.
The game is enjoyable at least and had me rolling on the floor with laughter at the humorous storyline and side-splitting skits. The loading Screens have questionnaires to keep you interested while the game loads. The graphics are fairly detailed and constantly animated. It features the sound talents of Iric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Graham Chapman and Terry Jones. It even includes a scene originally cut from the film ^__^.
The games plot surrounds the Quest for the Meaning of life, with close regard to the movie in the first disc. You start, traveling through the stages of life collecting items to further the game. It is a point and click adventure with an ability for a 360 panoramic view in most scenes. The mouse is used to control just about everything in the game: Examining things, picking up objects, putting down objects and using objects on other objects. The game takes awhile to understand but once you have done, it its a blast. I recommend playing through at least twice to see things you may have missed the first time through. The loading screen survey’s add to the replayability of the game as you will see the first time you complete it.
Although being a great game it is riddled with numerous bugs and errors. Most of these can be fixed or detoured, but are annoying to no end.
Despite the bugs it is rather worth buying, but is rarely found. Fortunately when you do find it, it most probably won't cost too much (I picked mine up for $7 au).
All in all, I would recommend this game for a laugh, to anyone with a decent sense of humor. Or to those without a sense of humor, a serious piece enlightening literature.
