Team Fortress Classic
Review by SephirGaine
"This game is 1337!!"
Honestly, I never played Team Fortress when it was on the Quake engine.. I should have. It was extremely popular, and it's not quite as popular as it used to be. My brother put Half-life at the top of my To-Buy game list, only because of Team Fortress Classic. I had no idea what I was in for..
This game is the coolest online-based game I've ever played. It's a mix between Quake's deathmatch and Counter-Strike's team-based objective. They're both great, and they both have their pros and cons. The carnage of Quake was placed into Team Fortress Classic from the original, and the team movements from Counter-Strike (which actually came later) was also in this. Capture The Flag, Capture and Hold, Mulching (deathmatch).. it's no wonder why this game is a winner. You get to choose from nine different classes, which all have their good things and bad things. Scout for movement, sniper for long-range, Heavy Weapons Guy for face-to-face combat, and soldier for all-around havoc. Not only that, but you can make your own maps for the game. Tedious, but worth it. There are hundreds of maps available to play at, depending on what suits your fancy.
Graphics: Alright.. well, the graphics could be better. Half-Life wasn't the greatest looking game ever, and TFC is no exception. At least its not just a bunch of blobs running around at each other, shooting little squares that lowers your health. It's all still pretty clear, but I'll be looking at Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms for better graphics.
Score: 7
Sound: Eh.. once again, the sound isn't spectacular, either. Considering that you can't tell the difference between a rocket and pipebomb launcher, you don't know what you're up against. The sound can also get pretty fuzzy around lots of action, which can anger your speakers. The sound's alright, and I never expected the best sound I've ever heard.
Score: 7.5
Storyline: Is there one?
Score: N/A
Fun: OWNAGE! Sorry.. had to take a line from the online community. Anyway, this game never loses its fun, because online games are never the same. The game limits you to NO extent. You can move wherever you want (except highly toxic acid and lasers that kill, of course,) and there's usually many ways that you can go about sneaking into the other team's base. The game is pure fun, and I'll leave it at that.
Score: 10
Lasting Appeal: You can stay hooked to this game for years. I have. Does that explain it well enough?
Score: 10
Alright, so let's recap.. the visual and audio appeal isn't too great when it comes to TFC, but its the best online game I've ever played, and many people will agree with me. All in all, this game is to die for. Er, maybe not that extreme.. its good enough to be hurt REALLY, REALLY bad just to get it. Remember, it only comes in the box of ''Half-Life: Game of the Year Edition.'' Go buy it, and coming soon: Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms
