Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

Review by VashChaosX

"Perfect for those rainy days!"

Now if you're like me, you have probably played games like Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10, and the others for the older systems like Breath of Fire and Chrono Trigger for SNES. We've all witnessed the hype every game gets before it's ever released. Take for example, Final Fantasy 8. To me, that got a lot of hype because of it's predecessor FF7 and everyone thought it would be one of the best games because FF7 was a breakthrough game. I have tried many PC games also. Mainly the ones that I heard people talk about a lot like Starcraft and Quake and the sort. One day while I was walking through Wal-Mart, I saw their shelf of games. I walked past it a little and saw another shelf where they keep the games that probably a lot of people don't know about. One of the games caught my eye. First thing I always see is the price. 9.96! Then I picked it up and saw that the box contained 2 games for the price of one. I thought what the heck, why not try this. What a journey!

Graphics - 7
Mainly, the GFX depends on your computer system and graphics card. For me, I have an ATI Radeon card and the graphics looked as good as anything else! Nicely designed levels and low loading times. It sometimes makes you think you're playing a PSX or PS2 game. I liked the fact that the game scenario was based in a real time setting like the future. There were junkyards, old preserved buildings, robots, and all that sort of stuff. The only reason this got a 7 is because the main character (which is a girl by the way) moves a little too slow. Other than that, great job on the GFX!

Story - 7
The story was interesting in a way that it is different than other stories I've heard of. It's about a girl and her village going through hard times because of the monarch of their village. She learns many things along the way of her journey. Nothing groundbreaking though, because sometimes it tends to get a little tedious as you go back and forth through the areas to accomplish your missions. Overall, it's entertaining but thats all.

Gameplay - 8
Now this is where the game gets good. When you start the game, you have the choice to load a game or create a new one. And you can save the game at any point in gameplay and I think that's really helpful if you need to take a bathroom break or go to your kitchen to grab a bite. Walking around is just a little slow at times...sure you can run, but that's slow and confusing also. I like the battle system because it's sort of a CT and FF mixed style. You buy items and utilities for the main character at shops after fighting monsters for money and experience points. It even shows you in battle what stuff you have equipped, and that's pretty cool. I like the fact that you can even by spells and that helps in killing the harder monsters and bosses. The gameplay might take an hour or so to get used to it, but it's worth the wait. You'll enjoy the easy button and mouse combinations mixed with the nice and easy gameplay.

Overall - 7.3
This is a nice game for those rainy days or even for days you don't feel like playing your PS2. They should have thought of making this game for a a console instead of PC. Also, the game is worth the price. You get Septerra Core and Shogo for the low low price of 9.96. So even if you do get bored of this game, you can play Shogo which also rocks! Take my advice and try it out. A game doesn't have to be made by a big-name company to be good.

Septerra Core proves that even though you may not be willing to play a game you have never heard about, you should try it anyway because you never know, you may be surprised with how it turns out. And for around 10 bucks, it's a steal!
