Maniac Mansion

Review by DarkIVloon

"A Mansion full of Maniacs...Dont get locked in the dungeon.."

Storyline 10/10

Ever since a meteor crash landed near the mansion 20 years ago, Dr. Fred Edison has been doing evil twisted experiments in his lab. His next target however is Dave's girlfriend, Sandy. This is where the story really begins, you control Dave, a teenager on a search for his missing girlfriend. You can also pick 2 other friends to tag along out of 6. Each friend has differant talents that they contribute in the game to beat it. This helps the replayabilty in the game. Whoever you choose to be Dave's partners will get through the game in a differant way.

Game Play 8/10

Maniac Mansion is a point and click Adventure game from Lucasarts. Basically you get a list of actions you can choose from. You click on the action you want and then click on the object you want to interact with. Theres many puzzles you have to get through in the game, and depending on which characters you picked, theres a differant way through them each time. The game goes along at a good pace, your never stumped for too long. However I did lower the rating because your characters move from one place to another pretty slowly.

Graphics 8/10

The graphics in this game are pretty good. Considering the game was made for PC in 1988, most of the objects are nicely drawn and clear. The Characters aren't extremely detailed, but they look good enough.

Music/Sound 6/10

There is one song at the beggining of this game, and that is the only music youll ever hear throughout it. However the song they do have is very catchy and written well. There aren't much sounds to the game either. A door opening and closeing here and there, a clock ticking. Yep those are about all the sounds you hear through out the game.

Replayability 9/10

Being able to choose differant characters in the game raises the replayabilty in this game. However its not a game you can just jump back in right after beating and start with differant characters, but you'll find yourself coming back to play it after a while, for the rest of your life.

Overall

Overall Maniac Mansion is a fun puzzle/adventure game that everyone should own. Its one of the first Point and Click adventure games by Lucasarts and I think maybe the only one you can actually die in. So throw away your PS2 and grab one of the best adventure games in existence.
